Good morning!
The weatherman says we got a high right now of 25 and going to a high of 23F, hmmmmmm something backwards here?
A 40% chance of flurries and the wind NNW 18 gusting to 24.
Looking out my kitchen window I can tell you that I have about 6" of snow to move today. I will get at that around 10. The ground isn't frozen yet, so I will curl the back blade so as to pack it down somewhat.

Everything I wanted to do yesterday miraculously got done.
I kicked the ride on mower off the trailer and threw the trailer outside. Now I can get all of the Jeep inside.
Where buddy dumped the wood was right in front of the steps to get up to the oil tank, so I moved that wood back further on the pile. I don't agree with the idea some people have of the delivery guy having to crawl over all kinds of general crap to get to the oil fill. If you have ever stepped on a piece of firewood hiding in the snow, then you will know what I am trying to prevent.

Have a good day, all.

aahhhh, boil it three times at least, and when in doubt, of course, cook it in bacon grease....

Poke Sallet Recipe
Remove pokeweed leaves from plant.
Rinse pokeweed leaves in cool water.
Bring leaves to rolling boil in large pot for 20 minutes.
Pour leaves into sieve and rinse in cool water.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 two more times.
Panfry pokeweed leaves for a couple of minutes in bacon grease.

Yep, my gramma use to cook it, I didn’t eat it.

Was 63 degrees when I went outside earlier, now has dropped to 53 and windy..makes the frisbee do crazy things, but Coco keeps a good eye on it.

Let the woodstove go out last night for the first time in 2 weeks. I'll clean out the ashes and clean the glass door today, since cold weather is returning.

Opening day of gun season yesterday. Heard lots of shooting and dogs running...but none nearby. Helped my nephew get a buck just at sunset, and dress it, so didn't get home until 9:30.

Ed, hope you get to feeling better today.

Randy, money was scarce with many of my ancestors in eastern Carolina and Virginia, and they ate their share of collards...raised pigs and chickens for meat and eggs. When I visited, I always liked walking the coop to collect eggs and later trying to catch the goat kids...used a mule to plow the garden, and pull a cart for transportation...riding in that cart is one of my fondest memories of childhood. I only ate poke one time...just to try it. If I preferred it, I could live off all that we have growing around here.

A little rain and lots of wind, south then northwest gusting to 40 plus. Daughter came over and put up some Christmas decorations. I’m not much in the mood but the grandsons like it and after all, it’s not baby Jesus’ fault! Started to do outside deco yesterday , glad I waited with this wind like it is.

First cup of coffee has been poured. 34° with a brisk wind and cloudy skies. Rain all day yesterday. 1.67 total in 24 hrs. Going to get the last steps of pond winterizing done today. Today would have been the day we leave home and head south for the winter. But not this year. Kind of sad. But do not miss all the maintenance required to keep a RV.
Randy, I never start decoration until after Christmas. But then they are all inside. No way can I keep up with neighbors outside decorations.
Good Morning All.
Edit, Thanksgiving

fun time in the kitchen this morning, cleaned all the collards while I had chocolate caramel brownies in the oven. The latter headed to a neighbor.
Most of the collards were pretty beat up, I found three more cabbage worms while picking them. Small ones were beautiful leaves, and as they got larger, I just used a knife and cut out
the whole inner stem.

Must admit that while cleaning the collards I probably threw out a third of the leaves. During the Depression, I'm sure everything got cooked.
Just cook it a little longer...
I could hear faintly some little old lady yelling at me you're wasting it, you're wasting it!

Wound up with a nice colander full. Will bag them and put in refrigerator, then need to come up with another recipe.

Went to Deere dealer and bought 2 friction rings and new springs for the bushhog PTO clutch. It needs a new metal drive ring too as the old one is dished, but the dealer did not have one. I will order one online or pick one up in College Station.

I got the stuff installed and tightened the springs what I thought was tight, but it still slipped in the thick grass. We got 25" of rain during Hurricane Harvey and the fields had the thickest growth I've ever seen. I can usually mow between 7-8 mph, but only 2 mph this time around, and sometimes down to 1 mpg. "A2" for those with 12 speed gear options. I have a few areas that are growing some type of bunch grass, possibly smutgrass. Not sure what to apply to knock it down. Might have to make a Roundup soaked rod to hang from the FEL and apply it at a height just above the bermuda.

Anyway, I tightened the "tootenbacher" out of the springs, to almost no gap between each coil, and it worked much better. I got down to maybe 4 acres left and the front left tire's (yes, the one I've been struggling with) plug popped out of the original hole that caused it to go flat. It was shooting green Slime out everywhere as I was trying to make it back to the barn. I need an internal patch plug to properly repair it. Good thing I have a lot of experience removing and debeading the thing. Good workout.

My daughter ran the riding mower around the house, I just had to do the last bit up close to walls and around objects. She keeps a safe distance. I noticed the blades were vibrating (after being re-sharpened maybe 3 or 4 times). They were so worn out, that the sand and grit had made concaved areas on the "lift" back edges of the blades.... I chunked them and put another set of re-sharpened blades on. Much better.

Also dismantled an old Lazy Boy chair, so that I can fit it into the Altima and take it to work to throw it in the dumpster.

Our high school football team lost in the first round of the playoffs. Good bunch of kids, just no superstar spectacular athletes.

Got a haircut on Friday so that wifey will let me back into the house.

Time to get ready for church.

Have a blessed day all.
