Huge tree just fell on mountain behind house

We had a tall pine uproot and fall over into the field this morning due to snow and ice.

I wonder what the cruising range would be if you had 5 of those babies strapped on the back of your rowboat?

The Whirlpool range here has a safety shutoff solenoid valve that must have 110V power to open. When the power goes off, no gas will flow to the burners, oven, or broiler. When the power comes back on, I have to press and hold down one of the control buttons to re-energize the solenoid. Near as I can tell, the valve is not a mandatory requirement, so your stove may work just fine without electricity.

Here's a list of things that might and might not work during a power outage. It was written in 2019 when PG&E started turning off the electricity to residents in areas prone to wildfires.

After a trip to very crowded grocery store to get a lighter I was thinking that was a wasted trip but after scrounging around I found the operators installation papers the previous residents left. Even though it's only 5 years old it has a Power Failure paragraph that states it can be lit by a match by turning the burner to HI. But the hood vent is electric, so without electricity it can be used for a limited time only with ventilation and not to use it to heat the kitchen, due to carbon monoxide poisoning.

I did a few service calls to Barrie, Ontario. Great town on west end of Lake Simcoe. Having dinner in the evening at one of many restaurant that over looked lake made a long day very relaxing.

My grandparents had 3 gas space heaters with no vents. But I do remember sitting next to a wood window (the kind with weights in the wall) and feeling a lot of cold air.

The sun came out and our temperature was up to 30 degrees this afternoon by 2 p.m. Our washer and dryer are actually in the garage, which is not heated. So I figured the small heaters would be sold out at Walmart, but on the chance that they'd have one, I went shopping. I went to THREE different Walmarts and this afternoon was worse than Black Friday. All 3 Walmarts had cashiers at every station, and waiting lines at every one; no carts available at 2 of the 3; all in use. Never seen the parking lots so full, and as expected, no small heaters available. Our garage is not heated, BUT I can leave the door from the kitchen into the garage open, so hopefully the plumbing in the garage will not freeze.
