Good morning, the temperature is -10°F and going up to 5. Wind ENE 7 mph. Increasingly cloudiness.
Snow coming tonight.

We found a local place that makes English pork pies, I have to go and collect the two that we ordered. That is all that I am planning to do today.

Chores: Dump run, get diesel...also need to hit the bank for blank checks (or order a check book). Also, a quick stop at the auto parts store for some cold weather windshield wiper fluid and a bottle of Power Service.
When I get back, I want to try out that pump ((88) TERA PUMP 3RD GENERATION TRFA01 - Battery Powered Fuel Transfer Electric Pump - YouTube) one of you suggested. Tractor tank is half full, so 5 gallons ought to get it pretty close to topped off. If the 10 day forecast holds, there's going to be a lot of tractor work next week (Monday-Tuesday 10"; Thursday-Friday another 10 inches of snow)

As far as pacing myself...the tractor will do most of the work, and the EGO snow blower will do the rest. If it appears to be too much for me, I'll hire my neighbor's son to do the work. He'll be raking the roof at minimum...

Good Morning!!!! 48F @ 5:00AM. Rain and wind early. Decreasing clouds with mostly sunny skies by afternoon. High 62F. Winds SSE at 20 to 30 mph, becoming NW and decreasing to 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 90%.
It's raining now, with about a quarter inch through the gauge so far. The more the merrier.

I watched Only The Brave the other night, Kyle. It's the story of the Granite Mountain Hotshots, and the tragedy that befell them several years ago. Very well done, but sad. Hoping for a quick recovery for you and your son.

Welded 2" sections of bar stock into the too short bolts and got the railroad track ballast on the box blade yesterday. Reattached the hydraulic top link and for the first time enjoyed the luxury of on-the-fly adjustment of the cutting angle. Used it to gather up some gravel then run it over some rutting in the driveway. Cleaned up real nice and easy. Started cutting up the old receiver hitch to resize it for the new box blade. Probably work on that some more this afternoon.

Still haven't heard back from the guy with the gate connection. Might have to change directions on that one.

26 out now, about where it will stay all day, freezing rain and snow coming in after lunch, not
a lot of precipitation but should make for miserable driving.

It's been awhile since we had temperatures this low and lasting this long; 20 degrees, or less, for 2 or 3 days. This morning is the first time in a few years that the backup electric heat came on to help the heat pump. And you can bet that there's going to be a lot of frozen, and some broken, water pipes in the area; just hope mine are not one of them.

Hope you all stay warm.

And I think I've only watched the Hunt for Red October 3 or 4 times; don't have it recorded anymore.

You want cold? I got cold! Woke up to -24 this morning, but don稚 worry it痴 going up to a balmy +10 this afternoon.

Bad news and good news. First, the bad news. MIL passed away from COVID-19 on January 31. Had a lovely funeral by Zoom on February 6. She lived in Calgary, and most of the family was out east in southern Ontario or Chicago. Then, that same day my father-in-law tested positive. Oh my, here we go again! He is 91 this month. but, surprise surprise, here it is February 13, and he still has no symptoms. Wifey had flown out to give support on 27 January, and now she has to stay in isolation until February 20.

Now for the good news. FIL Wants to come back out East, from Calgary to Barrie, Ontario, which is just north of Toronto where my SIL and her husband live. Found a nice retirement place, where they have just vaccinated everybody, including the staff. And the best part, is all 兎ssential visitors get vaccinated as well. Which would take me and three or four other family members right up to the front of the line! Otherwise, a 67-year-old youngster like me would have to wait for quite a while. (Wifey has already been vaccinated, because she is a front line worker.)

Strange how things happen.

24˚F here this morning and will not get above freezing, light mist but the roads are still good. The icicles are still not melting, going on the third day below freezing.
Ginger/peach muffins on the bake list today.

. . all it wanted was an occasional scratch behind the ears. Apart from mice and voles, I reckon most cats come here when they get bored and want to play a game of taunting Max.

A scratch behind the ears is good.

Use a scarf or mask over your face to help heat the air before you breath it. You really don't want to learn how it feels to freeze the snot in your nose...:laughing:

well, little drum roll here...
my new hero is Popgadget because in under three minutes he fixed my snowblower.
Out came the largest adjustable wrench I had ever seen, that went around the auger, then another
equally enormous wrench around the other wrench and that metal bent right back into place.
We fired it up and it ran fine.
Very happy to call dealer this morning and call off service call.
