Good morning!!!!

Good morning to all! Low was only 32, high today shooting for 68. A slight cool down tomorrow, but then temps stabilize for a week with highs in the low 60's, lows hanging around 30.

Got out into the shop yesterday, but didn't do any wood working.... just straightened up and prepared for the planing process. Dug out an old trashcan and going to convert it into a dust collector first. I need to go to the hardware store for some pipe fittings this morning so I can make it. I did take the kitchen chairs out one by one and put some swivel / felt pad feet on the bottom of the chair legs. They had the stick on type, but they were only lasting a few months before they fell off. I am hoping these last longer.

RNG, bummer that a mechanical issue prevented the camping / ride to the coast. Did you find what was wrong?

Drew, funny you mention clearing out underwear and socks.... I took two large bags of the same to our local donation center along with about 10 pairs of pants that no longer fit ..... they seem to be going in one direction, I keep going in the other direction (size wise)..... seems as I get older, the only two things on my body that haven't changed are my head and my feet!

Ron, nice pic as usual, did you try to train any of the tree rats?

Well, time is a wastin'..... I'm gonna get movin!

Drinking first cup of hot coffee. 24ー with a bright full moon lit morning. Heading to 48ー with some clouds. Got my shopping done yesterday.
DIL called yesterday. My youngest son is in hospital. Has no feeling in his feet or hands. They are saying he has a nerve problem in his neck. Prayers are needed.

Hope they are able to resolve this for your son quickly.

This is the Guard Squirrel at my feeders. Chases all away except Sandhill Cranes and Blackbirds.

Great picture ...

Definitely looks well-fed ...

Don, I never got my manual water gauge up this year. Found it while I was cleaning cellar this week.

Don't beat yourself up too bad ... I've got one I bought 5 or 10 years ago and still haven't got it up.

Maybe we'll both get to it next year ? ...

;)

No, haven't even unpacked it yet. Was hoping/needing a mental health weekend, and instead brought home yet another problem. Just not ready to deal with it now, and no pressing need to. I strongly suspect a u-joint, not only from the symptoms, but the drive shaft in the red bike was rebuilt by the same outfit that rebuilt the drive shaft on the zebra bike. And that drive shaft had a u-joint that failed on a trip in 2010. But other things can cause a vibration, so I'll check the motor mounts, carb synch, and bearing play in other parts of the drive line first. Then skin back the boot over that u-joint, remove four bolts, and look for play in the u-joint, or any undue friction or movement in the transmission output flange. And I've got all winter to do it.

70°F and .01 inches rain.

Enjoyed easy day yesterday. Not much visibly accomplished, but that’s OK.

Would like to get T111 finished today. That will involve building something of a 20ft knee wall and a lot of up and down the ladder.

Lots of good stuff going on here in our GM community.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Ron, prayers for your son's neck. Can't imagine it, prayers for healing and his medical staff.

Steiner sitrep: Messick's parts lookup is down this morning. I've been using that as a guide to what's what. Want to get the engine running prior to anything else, but need to dis-connect PTO. Will start taking panels off. Yes Randy, ferric oxide, actually FE2O3.

Drew, be careful with Ozone. I would recommend leaving the house while you turn it on. Ozone will kill just about any atom at the atomic level, including your cells. The first whiff can smell like a lightning storm, but that's all you want to breathe. It gives off it's extra electron very freely and that's how it kills odors and such.

RNG, sorry about your trip cut short. Wondering how you would check the u joint to see if good or not?

Prayers for all our team.

Took easy route and put it on the deck corner post for now. Too close to house, but it is what it is, better than sitting in garage. Next hard decision of the day, where to pick up supper. I want a good pizza, and there just isn’t any around that I consider great pizza. And by the time I bring one home it’s cold.

Thanks Kyle. It's actually kinda nice here, with more warm breezes and bright sunshine. Pretty nice consolation prize.

If there's any looseness or stiffness in the u-joint, it's bad. I suspect looseness, as that would lead to excessive vibration. When the last one failed, it was so bad the yokes were the only things transmitting power, so it wiped out the adjoining parts as well. Lots of potential for locking up the rear wheel when that happens. Not pretty, and expensive to replace. Another reason for ending the ride early.

42F and clear @ 20:00 ... which is supposedly the overnight low (theoretically)

Got sides glued, nailed, and clamped on one squirrel feeder. Need brass screws to really secure them though ...

I see another trip to Menards tomorrow ...

Cleaned out bucket and moved critter food around back and into basement.

Hosed the dirt out of two more buckets.

Refilled sunflower seed tube feeders. The newer tube feeders (same model) at TSC are now shorter ... for the same price of course ... (they think we don't notice ...)

Put up two new suet cakes.

Installed bird bath on back deck rail, such as it is. Apparently not a lot of care was taken when the heating element on the bottom was glued in (it's off on one end) ... so it isn't exactly level and it also doesn't allow the screw for the mounting bracket to grab more than a few threads ... Will have to see what I can do with that, come Monday probably.

Gave the main picture window and one of the adjacent casement windows an initial cleaning on the outside ... was pretty cruddy. Will clean insides tomorrow, will probably have to hit the outside again.

Was closing things up downstairs when I noticed a bunch of ripples in the frog pond. Walked back out and saw there was a tree rat doing the breaststroke so I went back in and grabbed the small cat carrier and the 10' landing net. By the time I got back out there he'd made it to the first step and hauled out. Tried to pull himself up to the next step and barely made it, probably due to hypothermia. I opened the door to the carrier and set it down on the top step and used the landing net to shoo him in ... he seemed pretty willing to go.

Buttoned up the door and brought him inside and tipped the carrier up at a 45 degree angle and dumped some pine shavings in and then took him back into the fish room (probably the warmest room in the house) After that I tossed some cracked corn and some peanuts in, just in case he needed to replenish his energy reserves.

A couple hours late he seems to have mostly dried out and doesn't look too much the worse for wear ...:

Hope everyone had a great day.

Good evening. Was a beautiful day outside. Everything dried nicely.

So, Randy would be proud of me.... I switched hats today, became an upholsterer..... The wifey has a sitting / lounging bench that was in dire need of new foam. We had ordered some dense foam and some memory foam. It arrived yesterday, and wifey was anxious to get the foam installed. So, pulled about a thousand staples around the existing frame and got the fabric off in one piece! Woo Hoo! ( I did not want to have to buy another lounger).

Used the bandsaw to cut the 3" dense foam, then the 2" memory foam. We did not use the cheaply made original frame, so cut a new frame base from some ply. Got the foam all lined up, the upholstery all centered and pulled evenly. I used my pneumatic stapler and got it all secured to the base. Mounted it back on to the furniture base frame and....

WaaLaa! All done! Wifey is very happy! It is very comfortable, far better than the original. I only thought of taking one picture....

But.... all was not lost today... I did get to the hardware store and got all the fittings to make the dust collector. While there, they had a few bins of
"90% OFF" items, all sorts of stuff left over from when the store switched from being a True Value to Ace Hardware. I got a handful of twin pack jigsaw blades for $0.25 each pack, allen wrench set for $1, bunch of other misc. stuff for pennies on the dollar. They are still sorting out the merchandise, so I think I will have to go back....
