Good morning,
the temp is 41°F and going to 45. Wind SSE 14 gusting to 22 mph. Rain.

The weatherman got it right for a change, I woke up to rain and it is still happening.
This rain put the kibosh on everything I was going to do outside. I guess today will be a conserve energy day, now.

Have a safe and healthy day all

made a quick trip down to local TrueValue hardware to pick up some mounting screw/bolts for weather station, hope my helpers get here before
heavens open up. Getting wet from two directions, same storm dumping on Bill is headed this way through New England, and another storm coming up from South
now soaking VA and Maryland, and then Philadelphia on the way North. Not much chance for nice weather in the next 24 hours, but then it clears up.

something I'm noticing about local drivers. Almost no one stops at stop signs, they just slide on through them. Must not be any enforcement.
Always thought stop sign meant stop, not slow down... Am just waiting for someone to honk at me when I actually come to a complete stop.

saw four Audi Q5's in parking lot this morning, local Audi dealer doing well. Lot of Mercedes and Porsche Cayennes also, offset by a ton of Toyotas and Subarus.
American cars don't do very well here...except for Suburbans and Jeeps.

Good morning to all! Low of 34, up to 66 today, sunny.

I WILL get out to the shop today.... at least I keep telling myself that....
I may have to go into town today to get wifey a new IPad for her. She had another glitch again this morning, "storage is full" , even though there is hardly anything 'stored'. Only way to get rid of the 'other' storage stuff is to erase / clear and start over from factory settings. Then get all the apps reloaded so we can pay our bills... which also involves re-establishing all the billing info.... a real PIA!

So, maybe a new IPAD with an upgrade from 16GB to 128GB is in order.....

With that being said, I am now calming down and researching / looking for a place that has them in stock to pick up. Will be making a bunch of calls to get confirmation....

Gotta get busy----
Everyone have a great day!

68°F and .01 inches rain.

Hope you all enjoyed your extra hour sleep. We don’t participate.

Piddle around kinda morning, likely watch some football.

This afternoon we go to birthday celebration of our pharmacist friend. Outdoor, socially distant etc. be interesting to learn who was invited and who shows up. For a number of years Rich and Anne host our New Year’s Day brunch which is always well attended. Judging from sound of the invite this will be very constrained.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

Partly cloudy, 46F, and headed down. Calling for snow showers later. Eight days coming up with no precipitation forecast and most highs in the mid to upper 60's ...

Wind is howling and several trees in the vicinity have broken off and/or blown over and come crashing down to the ground. Only one I've been able to spot is a top that broke off of a maple on the west side, came down close to our largest azalea ... but I think it's a near-miss. Thankfully, none appear to have hit the barn. Going to be a lot of clean up come spring.

Offered to let The Squeak out in the garage ... she hesitated at the door and eventually decided "No thanks".

First thing on agenda will be to turn the tree rat loose ... should be plenty dry by now.

After that maybe trip to Menards to pick up what in the order is currently there, one item is "Ship To Store" and won't be there for a while.

Other than that, will largely be an inside day.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ...

Dennis nice mount, need a pizza bag like the delivery guys use

Had one piece of weather station left over, a metal spring with a hook in middle. Not shown anywhere in the instructions. Edit, found where it goes after google search, screen for rain funnel.
Raining today, weather station says .13. And plastic gauge is about .15 eyeballing it. Need more rain to track it better.

Yes, I mentioned to wife I need a pizza bag.

I've mentioned B&H Photo Video before, and continue to recommend them. Great selection of computers/tablets/electronics IN STOCK, including the full Apple line. It's also where i've been getting the Unifi network stuff. Shipping is two or three days to here, and they're in (I think) New York. Sign up for a PayBoo credit card, and they remove sales tax from the bill. Returns have not been a problem, either, but I had to pay for return postage. Prompt, no questions asked refund or replacement. And no I don't get anything or benefit in any way by recommending them.

Election Day Cake Recipe | Old Farmer's Almanac

There is a cake for most everything. I want to make an authentic Election Day cake for Tuesday (with the regular substitutes for eggs and butter) but I do not want to substitute the candied citron. I also cannot find it locally. I'll try to find the citron fruit at another store later and make it myself.

Has anyone ever had an authentic "Election Day Cake"?

My wife also got a notification on her 6 month old iPad yesterday it said that she has used half of her memory. She has a 128GB.

A couple ideas on the iPad memory use, same for iPhone.

When you put things in the trash by deleting them, they're not deleted from the device until you also empty the trash. How to do that varies a little bit with the version of iOS your device uses, so try a google search for something like "iOS 14 delete email" or the like for the details.

Downloading photos and videos from the device to a desktop or laptop computer does not delete them from the device, either. Same deal, don't forget to empty the trash after you delete them.

Apps like iMessage and Mail keep everything, and same old song, just because you put stuff in the trash, doesn't mean it's deleted. And again, how to delete and empty the trash varies by the version of iOS you're using. Google is your friend.

Hope this helps...

David asked to see a floorplan of the Unifi network here. Here's one made in the Floorplan view in the Unifi Network Management software. It started as a photo of a blueprint that I imported, and then used the wall drawing tools to draw over the walls, picking appropriate materials (stucco, plaster, glass, etc.) as I went. The Devices list had all the cameras, access points, and switches I've installed. I've only added a few cable routes because the cable drawing tool is pretty primitive at this point and won't let you control the actual route that the cable follows. I also haven't figured out yet how to delete pieces of wall that I drew in the wrong places, which is why the radio wave heat map has discontinuities here and there.

I've also played a bit with the Floorplan Designer up at the Unifi website, and while it has more capabilities, I don't think it's really ready for prime time, either. It will keep track of the devices on the floorplan, and produce a bill of materials that can be used to place an order in the Unifi store. Clever marketing there, eh? The cable tool will let you control the cable placement, but again, I haven't figured out how to delete cable routes. Even though the helpful videos show how to do it, the application doesn't work on my computer like it does in the video.:confused3: From reading what little I could find in the Unifi user forums, the heat maps don't seem to be very accurate when it comes to signal strength, either. That's the main reason I went to the trouble to learn the tools, so I hope someday soon they'll implement that functionality. I think the best approach at this time would be to use the one on the Unifi website to keep track of what devices you want to use and get an estimate of how much ethernet cable you'll need. Then once things are up and running, you can use an actual signal strength mapping application on a WiFi enabled laptop to walk around making measurements, and use those to tweak AP settings and placement.

:2cents:

Agree, great vendor. Have bought Apple from them previously. Will have to look this PayBoo thing.

Thanks, RNG

I did a simple map in Designer. The far right is my tractor mounted, mobile AP.
I didn’t do walls as all other AP’s are external, on masts.
This is a 2.4 map.

36F @ 16:15, just winds howling still, in the middle of a snow squall ...

Tree rat did not seem inclined to vacate the carrier when I set it outside and opened the door before heading off to Menards. Hopefully has found his way back to his drey by now.

Might go check in a few minutes.

Have one bird feeder that needs refilled while I'm out there.

Gonna try to make a pet outa that squirrel, RS?

Nope - it's a wild animal and will remain that way ...

Although I wouldn't be adverse to training it to eat from my hand ... :D

Probably not gonna happen though.

Glad to hear you're getting some nice weather ... without feeling like you're traveling through Dante's Inferno ...

Could not find candied or fresh citron locally so the "Election Day Cake" will have to wait another 4 years.

However I went fishing at the open house craft center and got lucky. The trophy fish will be displayed in the built-in shelves around the tv wall.

About 1981-82 a squirrel started hanging around the open garage door when I was in there. I started talking to him and eventually gave him a saltine, he took it from my hand and sat there and spun it around while nibbling away. It took him about ten seconds to eat it. I named him Rocky, what else? I would sit at the picnic table and give him whole peanuts, which he made short work of.
He literally would eat out of my hand. He waited by the back door for me every morning, and if I didn’t show up early enough he would jump on the storm door and rattle it like someone knocking on the door. I was sitting at the picnic table one day and he came up with what appeared to be a female in tow. He came up on the table but she stayed about ten feet back. I threw her some nuts on the ground and fed him on the table. After that the two of them were there every morning until we moved from there about a year later.

Good evening! 31 now, was 51 this morning. Wind is blowing, snow was falling earlier. No accumulation.

Fired up the wood burner today for the first time. And very predictably.....the cats have assumed the position. Chloe (the white one) may be pretty much in the same spot until late March. Louie will at least move, all that hair heats him up. Callie will grab whatever spot she c@n, the other 2 are pretty dominant about pole position at the wood burner

I think they have been looking forward to this for a couple of weeks.

Cut some of the stock piled logs yesterday. Back and neck were really sore last night. Threw a chain away yesterday, it would loose its edge very quickly. Figured something was wrong, fortunately I had a new one available. Still went through 2 chains cutting yesterday. Trailer was definitely heavy coming down the hill.

Everyone stay safe out there
