Top and sodamo, sorry for the loss of your friends. People always find a place in our lives for some wonderful times. I hope when you can reminisce you find a lot of good times that you all shared.

68 heading to low 80's today. Fog over the pastures. Looks like the weather finally caught up to my pool. Have to add water to it. Seems we are in a dry spell now. Need to scalp the browning grasses that now crunches under foot. Got my chain saw working yesterday, stuck throttle cable. It's a cheapo, took it apart and cleaned out the insides. Yikes! Gunk everywhere.

I hope all have a great Friday, watch over your shoulders today.

Be Safe!

66 going to 86, a nice little fog this morning.

Eric, glad you got your rain. I need to try your bait.

Mowed along the road late yesterday...first time since they tar and graveled...found where they spilled some.

74 degrees this morning, going for a high of 98. For several days, the NWS showed a 50% chance of rain for us, and nothing happened. So yesterday, they lowered the forecast to 30% and we got about .05" of rain while the airport 10 miles from here for 1.24". I'm happy for those folks up there, but sure wish more of that rain had gotten down here.

And yesterday morning I got an email from an old friend's wife that he had just died. He started on the police department a couple of weeks before I did and in later years, when I was a Captain and he was a Lieutenant, we worked together in 4 different divisions of the department, played golf together, etc. He was born in Methodist Hospital in Dallas, and about 80 years later died in Methodist Hospital in Dallas.

Good morning! 77˚ heading to the high 90s, next week we get a string of 100s, so I'm enjoy the cool mornings.

David, Randy and Bird, sorry for the loss of your friends.

Whipper's first day in preschool went well. The classes go from preschool all the way up to college and they can take years. Her first test she passed - walking on a leash without pulling. We both are learning a lot. #1 rule is to never let your dog greet another dog. Always keep your distance. During our neighborhood walks I have had to tell some dog owners to pull their dog back. She stayed out last night only barking at a person at 11PM with a flashlight on the golf course that was going around a neighbors house who is on vacation. The yard is her's and so is the golf course about 50 yards on either side of the yard.

Today I have to work on some bird nest that have been on some decorative wood beams in front of the house. HMM ladder work on Friday the 13th, might have to delay that project.

Hoping to get the bike out of the shop today or they will be in the same category as RNG's VW.

The Harvest gold lamps turned out good and got the WSA. (Wife's Seal of Approval)

beautifully said Riptides. And Bird sorry for loss of your friend too.

This is part of us getting older, and the pace increases. Not exactly a cheery thought...
My Mom died at 51 and my Father at 65. I'm surprised I'm still here at 68.

ALS is an awful disease, hard on patient, hard on family, and rarely a good prognosis.
And sometimes when you want things to hurry up and be done with, they don't...
My step Mother who died at 93 in a nice CCC was in a wheelchair for years, but got around and had
a good life. But she told me softly one day, in the dining room where I would have lunch with her,
"you know Drew, sometimes it takes a long time to die" which I remember to this day.

I'll take the long time please, but only if not a burden on others. I have a big LTCI policy that hopefully
will prevent that. But when everyone, 100 percent, of your family dies of cancer, well....

this is why every day is a new beginning, a new opportunity to enjoy life to the fullest.
Remind those you love of your love. Always.

I started using GIMP when photoshop got too bloated and costly. It's got a lot of the same features, many similar, and most work really well. I've tried other package solutions, some of them are really nice for a photographer, but over time GIMP has kept me where others have ultimately just helped me keep going back to GIMP. I use a Macintosh and Windows and Linux... so I can use GIMP on any of them.

Is that a four string guitar you're playing in your avatar? :)
Yes, I too am a dedicated devotee to GIMP, but as PJ wrote - Gimp does not do vector.

PJ, maybe try downloading a program called Inkscape. It's free open source software, they only ask for a donation if you like it.

I just tested the pdf import by lifting a drawing from my Iseki manual (had to get a tractor into this somewhere :) )and proving that it came in as vectors by clicking on the steering wheel to delete it.

View attachment 562425

Great suggestion! I'll have to try it.

But Eric, why did you want to get rid of your steering wheel? Are you going to make your Iseki autonomous? :)

Good days and prayers for all.

Good morning to all! Low of 60 this morning, going to low 80's. The weather guessers say 60-70% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Yesterday, there were dark clouds all around, obvious rain elsewhere, but not here, just over our house. Literally got 2 drops in the rain gauge. Maybe I have to tease the clouds like Eric.

I know what I can do...I'll take out all my tools and start working on building the gate....that should entice the rain:D

David, Randy, and Bird, sorry to hear of the loss of your friends.

Buppies, prayers sent, I hope you receive good news soon.

Drew, I am very glad to hear you say that you are having an easier day today. I'm sure you will still be busy:cool:

Jay, hopefully by this afternoon you will be 'chilling' in the awesome climate control !! I'm sure Brogen will be happy being back home.

I'm going out early to do my rain dance and start getting out tools. Have a great day! Prayers sent for all.

The low was 52* this morning with sunny skies. Today is going to be in the high 80's and a light breeze. They don't show any chance of rain for the next few days.

Best wishes for those of you that have lost friends, hope you have a lot of good memories of them.

I ended up going down to SLC with a neighbor for his Dr.appointment yesterday. We made a few stops and pick up somethings for his new side by side and my trailer. It made for a long day, about 3 hundred miles round trip.

The weekend is almost here, hope everyone enjoys it.

Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 6:45AM. A mix of clouds and sun during the morning will give way to cloudy skies this afternoon. High 93F. Winds light and variable.

A band of monsoon moisture is passing through for the next several days, bringing clouds and higher humidity. (42%). That’s nothing compared to 90% humidity I suffered with back east, but it’s also well above the single digit readings we’ve been seeing every afternoon.

When I retired I purchased a bunch of razor blades for my triple blade handle, and eight years later I’m less than half way through. I try not to shave more than three times a week, and like a few of you, could not get over the razor burn from electric cutters. Edge shave cream keeps it to a minimum with the blades, but it’s still irritating, especially where the motorcycle helmet strap rubs under my chin. Earlier this year I got a six pack of Edge from Amazon, and I uses so little, it just might be the last time I ever buy shave cream.

Glad your A/C misadventures are coming to an end soon, Jay. But I bet I am not as happy about as your wife, and especially Brogen!

When Adobe first came out with Photoshop and Illustrator, I got a copy of each to use at work, mostly for editing photos and creating buttons and other widgets for software. Never did get the hang of Illustrator, and never upgraded that copy. Still use an ancient version of Photoshop, but now just for minor photo editing. When it finally quits running, probably due to an OS upgrade, I’ll have to go find something like GIMP because I refuse to accept the subscription model being foisted on us by several of the big software companies. The network is so unreliable here, the software would be unuseable much of the time because it wouldn’t be able to call home to find out if the license is good. I also learned long ago that the client-server model is also subject to network vagaries and is not to be trusted. And I’ll stick with USB drive copies for my backups, thank you very much. None of that cloud based crap for me!

I can’t imagine a pool table in my shop, Bird, but I’ve given some thought to putting one in the great room. If I tried to put it out in the shop, it would soon be covered with a piece of plywood, and that would be stacked with bits of projects and covered with grinding dust or paint overspray...

No good news at the eye doctor yesterday. He just confirmed that the right eyelid is still not closing all the way when I blink, which leads to a dry eyeball and profuse watering, first on the right side, then sympathetically on the left. Had a heck of a time with the eye test, the result being less magnification in a new perscription which I very likely won’t fill.

I did manage to find a very nice breakfast restaurant called Mom’s in Chico, enjoying the best heuvos rancheros I’ve had in that town. Something changed at the place called Morning Thunder I used to favor, and the food had an iron tainted flavor that I think was coming from not cleaning the grill properly. It changed hands several years ago and hadn’t been right since. The new place is down town with parallel/metered street parking, lots of fun in the crew cab equipped 8’bed F250. Finally found one on the end that was easy to get into, but forgot I had a backup camera and had to get out twice to see how close I was getting to the car behind me. Then I forgot where I parked, but Siri remembered and showed me exactly where it was on the iPhone map when I asked. I was only off a block of where I thought I’d left it...

Checked on the van yesterday, and while there was no sign of the mechanic, his helper was actually working on it. The muffler was on but it was clear there is still not enough room between it and the engine mount, and I’m pretty sure the’ll be some banging and clanging when the engine starts the first time. It still needs the coolant hoses hooked up to the A/C compressor, which apparently requires a pair of fittings to be installed on the hoses, and it needs some reinforcement to be welded onto the frame where the engine mounts go. The helper said he hoped to finish that work today, then revealed he’s looking elsewhere for a new job and hoped to be gone in no more than two weeks, if he can even stay that long. All due to the constant stream of interruptions caused by dissatisfied customers coming in looking for the mechanic, who’s response for the past few weeks has been to just not show up for work. I told the helper that there’s a case of beer in it for him if he gets the work done, and got his phone number in case I need his help to finish it myself.

I’ve always had pretty good luck on Friday the 13th, but consistently bad luck on the days immediately before and after...

...... you know Drew, sometimes it takes a long time to die" which I remember to this day."- Drew

^^^^^ Awesome posts. Drew- I hope to see you posting a long time I feel blessed to have worked with residents in longterm care facilities who gifted me many times over with their acquired wisdom and life stories as we transitioned through life.

So far my closest friends are still living. I do not look forward to losing any.

Roy- I am glad your audit went well.

Don- Good luck with Whipper's socialization. Brogen's size, lack of prior training, and energy creates unique socialization challenges. I am still working on good leash manners....... I may be working on leash manners for a long time.

Buppies- I hope you have good news from the doctor.

Bird- Your shop is cleaner and neater than our kitchen.

Ted- Brogen likes going to the kennel..... He likes coming home even more..... My Tundra is a mess.

RNG- The mini-split system was installed and charged Wednesday. The electrician showed up yesterday to run a 40A line to the A/C compressor/inverter. The house design and the added-on cellar did present some challenges, but a solution was found. This upgraded mini-split system is amazing and really quiet indoors and outside at the compressor/inverter. It cooled the house down quickly It will take us a long time to figure out the different controls and settings. The indoor head units can actually track one's body and room IR image and vent the vanes/fins/(fans?) accordingly if the heat source remains fixed. There is a little gizmo at the bottom of the head unit that actually spins slowly around "scanning" the room:cool:; not a system for a paranoid.. Ceiling fans throw the units' circulation programming off. Now Brogen can move from zone to zone in absolute cooling luxury.

I hope that everyone has a decent Friday the 13th and weekend.

My condolences, + thoughts, wishes, and prayers for all.

68°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 96° today. The 76% humidity isn't helping. Potential storms coming through Sunday and Monday should cool us back to more normal 80s next week.

To all those losing friends, rather than just offering the usual condolences for your loss, I think I'll instead offer congratulations on having the opportunity to have had such people in your lives that you could consider them friends worthy of being missed. Life is full of treasures like that, even if we often don't see it.

Great-looking shop, Bird. Clean, organized, and well lit. Color me envious.

Thanks for the suggestion, Eric. I had Inkscape on a list of potentials sometime back, but don't recall actually reviewing it. I'll have to go back and take a look at it this weekend. While I don't mind buying a program (or is it called an "app" now) for $80, my accountant Wife will surely appreciate if I can find one that works for $0.

Congrats on the great audit, Roy. Only two minors from an AS9100 audit is quite impressive. Definitely worthy of celebration.

Sounds like you may have a viable plan B developing there, RNG. Hope it works out for you.

:)

In the 1980's I made my living from designing control systems for autonomous coal mining machines. If only I was a little younger, I would love to do that all over again with tractors.

Well I have just got to reply to this shaving sub-thread. After I joined the Army in '75 I kept clean shaven for decades, using my Dad's safety razor and Gillette blades, even after I got out of the RA. Partially because in hot humid conditions with a beard my face would get itchy. And the Army seemed to want to make sure I traveled to hot humid areas.

About 2000 or so there was speculation that razor blade prices were going to jump, and being a cheap SOB I found a sale and bought about 20 packs. I made them last and MAYBE went through about 10 packs by 2005. Work got a little more liberal and I started keeping a beard during the winter, shaving during the summer. Then about 2007 I decided to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and dyed my hair and beard green for the day. And shaved it all off the next day. (Except for the moustache, I've kept that since '78) As I was approaching retirement I adopted that practice, sometimes not dying the hair. One shave and a haircut (with clippers at their shortest) on the day after. Repeat annually. Since 2009 I think I've gone through one pack of blades. SWMBO occasionally touches the hair between holidays.
This last year I changed over to just using the clippers for my beard, leaving me with about a two day stubble which seems to be popular. Saved me about 10 minutes.

Don't know where I packed the razor blades.

Shaving is far overrated. I think a good going over with clippers once a week keeps the bugs out, the moisture down and in this day and age your still presentable.
