Good morning all. 30 degrees going up to mid 50's today, nice day, with lots of rain coming in tonight and tomorrow.
So...good day to burn the burn pile, haven't been able to it's been so windy for what seems like weeks.
Then I might just plant that first tray of corn.

Picked up 20 bales of straw yesterday and started putting it down in the garden. Between the straw and the landscaping cloth, when I'm done it will be less muddy to get around in there. Straw does blow around a lot though. I've used it before and it calms down. Thankfully the bales weren't too heavy and only one broke on me.

Am going to have to transplant several dozen cabbage plants and consolidate them in one row to remove the big gaps of nothing. That's an easy job in this soft soil.

Otherwise hope you all have a good weekend. Buckeye, congrats on winning the contest. Ed, hang in there, hope today is easier.

26 right now...high in the mid-30's today.

Not much planned...a dump run (maybe) and I have to pick up some money at a gun shop. I had a rifle on consignment there and it was sold. Before anyone asks...it's an SKS Sporter (aka Model D) which uses a detachable 30 round magazine rather then the standard 10 round fixed box mag.
After that...just putter about

Need to pour another cup of coffee. 21° with partly cloudy skies. Heading to 43° with partly cloudy skies. Another day of doing almost nothing yesterday. I did mange to get in 2 miles of walking. Hope to get more than that today.

Ordered a new PTO shaft for my Reverse Tine Tiller Thursday. Arrived yesterday. Only problems it is not the 7" clutch that I ordered. It's a 6". Not sure this a problem. Old 7" PTO on the tiller would stall engine on tractor when a large rock got caught in tiller. OEM PTO shaft had little or no adjustment. With 22 HP PTO output of tractor the 6"" may be a better choice. Going to check it out before I cut shaft to fit.

Eric, I see a larger water collection container in your future. Check with Don. He has a large one. And since he is downsizing, maybe?

Good morning all, 28 going to 45 with a 20% chance of snow after 2 pm. Found out last night mom's pneumonia is bad in both lungs and she has a hole on her stomach or just below from prednisone. Surgeon said no go on surgery so will try sucking everything out of stomach for a few days and antibiotics. It is a british treatment and about a 60 or 70% chance it will work. She was herself last night and at peace with what ever comes. Tired this morning and thankful for you guys. Prayers for those in need and have a great day. Ed

I need too dig into my pictures. Jim had a field near his house that was better. In 2005 we took pictures of each couple in that field at the TX get together. I need to find them.

We got the frost heaves pot holes now,follow by budding of the mud soft maples and ***** willows than the peepers blackflies,critters here and there....oh yeah I am ready for the days ahead.

Plans for today...remove snow banks here and there,Tractor Supply see what they offer log tongs and metal rack basket for tractor,than some laid back puttering...doubt very much sap will flow today.

SNOW SNOW SNOW on March 24th here in Central Illinois and I don't like it one bit! I'm darned near out of propane and the tractor battery is dead so I'm not plowing that cussed stuff. It's just going to have to sit and melt (probably by Monday). Think I'll just get in one of the 4x4s and drive to a bar for the day.

Sad to hear about the loss of that police officer, Eric. His life was worth so much more than the terrorist that caused his death. Senseless. Just senseless.


Love the bluebonnets, Don. Out here another member of the lupine family brings beautiful color to our springs. Not quite the time for them yet, but soon. Hope your red clover does well, too.

Tangled again with installing a reproduction ignition lock on the old motorcycle yesterday. First time I did it it went right in, but yesterday's battle lasted more than an hour. It seems the repo had a burr along one edge that kept it from going into place, and it took a while to figure that out. To celebrate, I removed most of the "upgraded" charging/ignition system, put it in a box, and started reading up on how the original generator and magneto will be fitted. Haven't installed and adjusted a set of points in over forty years. Wonder if I still have what it takes?:confused2:

You mean the AR-7 survival rifle? It's a nice rifle...not something I shoot much, but for a camper or backpacker, can't beat it.
I had a Henry lever action .22 several years ago...sold it when I bought a Marlin 39A lever action. I just ordered a Ruger PC9 take down rifle...

The rifle in the picture is a Ruger American .22 bolt action...that's a suppressor on the barrel.

Don, I forgot, why did you quit caffeine?

The Prolon meals included herbal teas during the 5 day mimicking fast but they said if you HAD to you could have up to one cup of black coffee a day. So I just stopped coffee and didn't start back up. I am drinking different herbal teas. The concern is from a study published in the European Journal of Clinical Nutrition in 2010.1
The objective of the study was to investigate the acute effects of coffee on endothelial function measured by brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD).
Arterial flow decreased after drinking caffeinated coffee, to an average maximum of 22.1% at 60 minutes. The researchers conclude that: caffeinated coffee induces significant endothelial dysfunction? They suggest that coffee may have unfavorable acute cardiovascular and metabolic effects on endothelial function.

Probably to most people it's not a concern but I did not want anything interfering when trying to get off statins.

I found the hot apple cider tea to be a good substitute in the morning.
(Also the unfavorable arterial effect was not found in decaffeinated coffee.)

OK we stopped about the same time, we can compare. Did you just stop on your own. Does your Dr. know about it. My 2 week blood test after stopping statins was:
Cholesterol 161
Triglycerides 111
HDL 51
LDL calculated 87
Cholesterol risk ratio 3.2

Another test in 3 months after my body adjust to no pills. I found an inexpensive place to do blood work so I'm going to check every month to make sure I stay out of the danger zone and how much I fluctuate. Just $29 Heart Health & Cholesterol Lab Testing they have these all over the U.S. Walgreens and CVS does not do the testing anymore.

I know everyone is different and some of ya'll can eat sausage and bacon and your levels would be better but I got bad genes and have to make adjustments to diet to stay off pills. I hope it is still possible.

Genetics are important, I Have plenty of issues but I can eat anything and have the cholesterol stay way low.

No snow in the forecast until Tuesday.

Tuesday I will be down in the big smoke for a day of BS.
One day of BS and then travel to the boat on the next day as well as a trip to the tractor dealer to pay for the back hoe. Both of them I will do on the way home.

The security system arrived yesterday. The ground is too frozen (4' of frost) to do anything with them. Maybe late April by the time I get them set up and working.

I was going to set up the fuel system (electric pump off my HHO tank) for the tractor today, but it is too cold for that nonsense. So I will scrape the excess snow off the driveway today instead.
