As you age you will find it harder to live in that low temperature.

Yep, our thermostat stays on 76, my wife sits on the sofa under a blanket and I sit in a recliner under the ceiling fan.

I notice the cold more in my extremities, and the gloves go on quicker.

I am much more cold tolerant than heat tolerant.

Wifey's in her lair in the living room near the wood stove and it's probably close to 80F. I am at the computer station at the farthest part of the downstairs living area ad it is a comfortable 71F in a long sleeve polypro shirt.

I will post that there are times that wood stove heat feels really good.

Me, too, as long as the "cold" is above freezing. I'd love for the temperature to always stay at 40 to 50 degrees fahrenheit.

Here is another new fact of the day from Julieanne Hever's book "Idiots Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition". (second edition) (She held cooking classes on the Cruise.)

"In one clinical study, a single serving of Brazil nuts (20 grams or approximately 4 nuts), significantly lowered LDL-c ("bad" cholesterol) and raised HDL-c ("good" cholesterol) within 9 hours of consumption, and these new levels remained for 30 days."

We keep the house in the winter at 69 summer 69 just where we feel most comfortable and as we replace windows and doors house becomes more efficient

Just ordered 5 pounds from Blain's Farm and Fleet. Should last a while :)

I opted for a 10 oz. package, as they tend to go rancid if not kept cold. Mine'll be in refrigerator, unless I can find somewhere that it's OK to put them in the freezer.

It'll be interesting to see how many nuts come in that 10 oz. bag. Could easily amount to a full year supply!

I try to keep this place at a steady 77F year round. Sometimes the stove gets a little hot it'll shoot up to the mid 80s. If it was summertime, I'd be running the AC, but since it's winter for some reason it feels good and, so far at least, I haven't been tempted to open any windows.

But I also find myself taking longer to acclimate to the changes between winter and summer temperatures. Seems like just about the time I start getting comfortable with the colder temps in winter, it starts warming up. So I always feel like I'm a month or six weeks behind.:confused2:

At four per month won’t they get stale, rancid? I’m looking for a source of very small quantities. Like a place selling them 4 at a time?

I wonder if it matters how they’re processed? Roasted, dry roasted, salted, not salted?

I too am interested.

Our house is a strange design, but "passive solar oriented" to the site that seems to work...... sometimes. The first generation "high tech" "triple paned" windows that replaced the original windows around here work; but need to be replaced. Solar gain as a contributing heat source works both ways.

Rick the nuts in the study were raw.

A 1-oz. serving of Brazil nuts -- consists of only six kernels. A serving contains 190 calories, 4 g of protein, 19 g of total fat with 4 g of saturated fat, 780 percent of the daily recommended intake of selenium and 25 percent of the daily intake of magnesium and copper.

Since the research was only done with 4 nuts you can only have 4 a month - no more, no less.
According to my calculations you have enough for one person for a decade.
1 oz = 6 nuts
5 lb = 80 oz
80 oz = 480 nuts
480 nuts /4per month = 120 months = 10 years

Remember treat this food as a medicine, more is not better and you could get into side effects.

Maybe, but I'm 68 now...seems to still be OK.
We do turn it up a few degrees (65-66) on those cold damp days though.

We had a stretch before Christmas where the early morning (0330-0500) temperatures were well below zero (couple of those days were minus 25 or so). Those were tough...but a week or so back, I was at a hotel in Hartford CT...stepped outside at 0630 or so wearing a tee shirt and jeans (smoking a cigarette)...talking to a guy from Georgia (also smoking) bundled up. I guess the temperature was in the low 30's. It all depends what one is used to.

Wife has the upstairs at 65, 66 downstairs.

Nothing like nutty research....

Daylight savings time, is like having a blanket that won't cover your feet, so you cut a foot off the top and sew it on the bottom so it will.

Thanks for the clarification Don. I’m not a fan of Brazil nuts or raw nuts in general but .... if I only need to consume 4-6 (1 oz.) per month ... I’m in.

Wouldn’t raw nuts go bad after a long period of time? I’m more inclined to getting smaller, fresher, quantities.

Thanks for your leadership on helping us with out health?

Not 4-6. Only 4 nuts per month.

Four Nuts Once a Month | NutritionFacts.org

As the video points out it was not sponsored by the Brazil nut companies which is a plus, but it was on a small group of people. It needs to be tested on a larger group and see if the results are the same. Don't overdose on these little selenium bombs, only 4.

I have had some raw Brazil nuts in my pantry in a resealable container for over 8 months and they have not gone rancid.

Clocks are adjusted, now if we can just get DST to stop that would be a good thing.

Yesterday, I put new pulleys, 1 new tensioner, and both serpentine belts on the Yukon 5.3L Also, Oil and filter change. Mobil 1 extended life and Mobil 1 filter.

Don, Do you need to eat the selenium bombs all at once? Or can you do once a week for a cumulative effect? Only raw counts?

Hot down here today. A/C on. 76 inside,

Planted 2 more cherry tomatoes, "Grape" cherry tomatoes this time. Also planted some cucumber and cantaloupe seeds. Both types of seeds look remarkably the same... Still need to get the garden bush green beans in...Went and bought some water soluble fertilizer and a 1.5 gallon plastic watering bucket with a sprinkler head. Onions, spinach, and garlic are doing great so far.

Ok, good. I misread your prior post and thought you were saying 1 oz.

I agree on DST! It has long outlived it original purpose.
