Need to pour second cup of coffee. 55° with light fog this morning. Heading to 83° with sun changing to clouds in afternoon. Have some shrub's to trim this morning. Then it's NASCAR time.
Yesterday I put the old storm door and a couple of worn out Patio chairs out next to the road. I figured they would last less than a hour. Must have been a slow day. Took 3 hours for someone to pick them up. I always wonder what someone is going to do with the junk.
Good Morning All.

68 going to 92.

Something flew into my eye while mowing yesterday and is still bugging the heck out of me. I had on safety glasses, but it managed to slip through the gap. Saw a couple of stalky prickly lettuce weeds while mowing that I need to go back and pull.

Have son, wife and Chesapeake retriever coming for dinner tonight, and picking up another son at the train station. Will be fun to have 3 dogs competing for the Frisbees.

All I remember hearing about hemp seeds is that a lot of them severely devalued the ounce in which they came. Also that hemp plants grew all along the railroad tracks, where they fell off as the trains took the plants to the rope factory.

Good morning all, 61 this am with a high of 92 and no chance of rain. Line of thunderstorms went through last evening and parted and went on both sides of us. Radar showed red on both sides but we got a small shower. Got a couple hand planes and a couple chisels at a yard sale yesterday and went to the grocery store twice, forgot the almond milk. I also got my wife's rug loom and quilt frame home from the storage unit, got to keep her happy. Stubbed my toe on a box this morning about 1:30 going to check that all was well with my boy. He is not my son but a part of my wife's family but he is my little boy. Autism has him a perpetual little boy in some ways ans a grown man in others. He was fine and so am I but it makes me want to get finished moving.

Drew thanks for the idea, we had veg. burgers on wraps with hummus and mango salsa, lettuce, pickles, and cucumbers, with onion dressing. :licking:

My wife's cousin is raising hemp, there was a big wright up in the paper about it.

Bupies Be careful with those weed eating trees and shrubs, they might mistake you for a weed. :) Hope your knees are soon better.
Have a great day all. Ed

66 nice little storm yesterday evening got all grass mowed at one place filled z-turn up now to mow our yard which is by far the larger of the two. The mowing yesterday very slow three hours since with all the rain grass tall and thick. Weed eating is all that's left to do but will have to wait till next weekend

Arms very sore knee swollen but all in all no worse for wear

Weed eating tree and shrub trimming on agenda for today

Good Sunday morning to all.
Today is potato picking day. Might have some friends over to help/play but it's time to clean up the veggie garden and plant more bush beans, so I'm ready to pull the potatoes and get a second crop in. Besides, green beans are likely a lot better for me than potatoes, right Don? Weren't we always taught the skins were the best part for you? Probably because they still had some microscopic dirt/minerals that likely were good for us, but who can resist a crunchy potato skin?
I should...if I'm ever going to get the needed 20 pounds off. Two months into the six months where I promised my arthritis doc I would take off 20 pounds by the next time I saw him. Perhaps some renegotiation to 10.
Last time I was only down one pound and got eyes rolled at me, need to do better...

going to do maintenance on the JD mower deck and am very curious to see what the blades look like. I mowed some roadsides after the teenager went home and the blades were clearly duller than before. A trip around in the golf cart to Root City will quickly tell me what he's been wacking into. No rocks here, not one. Some slightly sandy areas, but I think the roots are the culprit. I keep telling him to raise up the mower but until he has seat time knowing what he can get over and what he can't, somewhat the hard way, I guess the inevitable will happen. Like boating in very shallow water...
At least he goes pretty slowly.
I also need to check the sunflowers today. Hopefully he weeded the weeds and not the flowers...

I like to be in the garden around 10am on Sunday. Quiet time. Even if I'm muddy or greasy.
I shut my eyes and teleport back to Wrightstown PA to sit in the same wooden pew, luckily now with a cushion,
I've been sitting on for almost 60 years. Many of us have "our spot". We move around gladly like checkers on a board, but
sooner vs later we wind up back in our spot.

It was really nice to sit in that same spot last weekend when I drove up to visit. Like recharging my emotional batteries.
We likely all do that in different ways.
Some may do it by fly fishing.
Some may do it by singing in a choir.
Some may do it riding a lawn mower.
And of course many do it through their faith and worship,
but I've never seen that as a requirement. Each to his own.

And for the rarified few that have reached the pinnacle of karma with the world,
they do it on a tractor! :tractor:
Some of my best thinking times have been on a tractor mowing a large field. Round and round, good time to think.

64 right now...heading up to 83 today.
Got the outside chores done yesterday. Probably was the mower today and, since my neighbor apparently took those branches I was going to chip, dismount the chipper and rig the RFM to the tractor. That's about it for me today...

Good morning all,
Got back last night from a trip down to visit my mother in Victoria Texas. If you like fixed up old Victorian style homes, it is the place to go see them. Not much else to do there.
It is so hot, I'm not scheduling much of anything outside these days.

Drew, I wouldn't even raise an eyebrow about a dull mower blade if I had someone helping out. The fact that he is able to help you take care of your place and goes home safe everyday is the important thing. I'll bet that apple tasted extra sweet.

Ed, it is tough taking care of special needs persons. Maybe God hand picked you to be in this special person's life. My daughter can be frustrating at times, but the love and blessings she brings me far out weigh everything. I wouldn't have it any other way. Prayers your way.

Roy, what time is beer o'clock today?

Bupps, glad your doing better.

Wngsprd, How about a pic of all 3 of those doggies? Sounds like you need 3 frisbees. They will wear out your arm throwing the frisbee. I know.

RS how is the sound, is it quiet?
Don,

He claims the one he heard in the showroom was pretty quiet ... but they also make another model for about an additional $500 that is supposedly super quiet.

Also found out that the one he has is a heat pump ... so it heats, as well as cools.

They gave him the wrong size liquid line, so he's got to pick up the correct one tomorrow to finish the install.

Good Morning! 65F @ 7:15AM. Abundant sunshine. High 92F. Winds SSE at 10 to 20 mph.

Lots of mowing and visiting goin' on, must be the weekend!

I'd venture to say that the wide open spaces here have a lot more room for foxes than do the park like expanses of Jolly Ol' England, Eric. And I can't see just killing three foxes (assuming I can even trick 'em into the live trap) when there's a chance they can make a go of it somewhere else. Even if they end up killing another set of foxes in their new range, it's still three dead foxes.

Well, Roy I made it to 4:45 yesterday afternoon, well past beer thirty. Wasn't long after that I had a little Moose Drool running down my chin.

Had a go at the cylinder head with the die grinder, and wasn't happy at all with the chunky finish and skittish handling. Couldn't find the sanding rolls, but did spot the little 3/8" band sander and gave it a try. It worked very well, and I think I even have the mechanic's endorsement.

GLheadCarving1.jpg GLheadCarving2.jpg GLheadCarving3.jpg

I'll try some finer bands today to improve the finish, but I think I've got a good path forward now.

Flushed with that success, I tried to get the rear brake drums off in preparation for the disk brake upgrade. The axle nut takes a 46mm socket (1 13/16 is close enough and I have one of those) and is put on with 360 lb ft of torque. Well I have an impact gun rated at 1200 lb ft of break away torque, and figured it would be easy. Well that nut just laughed at the gun, so out came a 3' 1/2" breaker bar and a nice long length of pipe. All that did was spin the drum on the emergency brake. So I dug around and came up with a piece of 3/8" bar stock and drilled it to accept two of the wheel studs. With that in place the wheel no longer turned, but once I got a two inch rainbow in the breaker bar my resolve failed. Out came the Kroil, and I think next week when I'm in town I'll pick up a 3/4" drive breaker bar at HF. At least if I break that I won't feel so bad, and it's guaranteed so the possibility of a refund exists, too.

The new wheels need refinished, and one is badly curb rashed, so I started in on them. A little Bondo and careful sanding restored the contours, and a trip through the bead blaster had it ready for paint. Got two more through that process before the heat and the beer whistle put an end to the work day.

Today I'll be sanding primer on the van, then finishing up the wheels. Be nice to be ready to paint in the cool of Monday morning.

And heck yeah, Roy, a three o'clock beer whistle sounds pretty good!

It is sad that you have to actually detune a motor to get it to pass your state's regs.

78.8F and sunny @ 10:30 ... high today predicted to hit 84F ... I'll bet we beat it.

Water faucet on the kitchen sink is starting to rot away and leak a little ... so there might be a trip to Menard's later. Might see if I can squeeze in a cheap bird bath as well. The other day was the first time I'd been there, pretty nice compared to The Depot and Lowes.

Picked up the torpedo heater and 42" floor fan the other day when I went into the commercial property. Got them unloaded out of the van, need to get them stowed away in the garage.

Got about 1/2 the front yards mowed last evening before it got too dark to see. Need to get out there and get that done before it gets much warmer and finish that up.

Menards is like a HD on steroids. Around here they have the best prices for lumber and other materials.

It is sad that you have to actually detune a motor to get it to pass your state's regs.

What they actually want is a factory stock engine. But the only thing they have to measure by is what the SMOG inspectors eyeballs and OBD tell them. I think we'll end up with what is essentially a hopped up 2.2 l with a bigger bore and about the same compression. The 2.2 heads use smaller valves than the 2.5 l, so you could say it's a de-tuned 2.5, but then a 2.5 would have to go through that arbitrary exam process. But a hopped up 2.2 is more politically correct, but still not legal if I get caught. Doing that would pretty much involve pulling the engine, something that's pretty safe to say isn't going to happen.

Another option was to find a carcass that had a Diesel engine. At this point in time they are smog exempt, and there's another project at the shop using a six cylinder Subaru engine in one. He'll be fine until some bureaucrat swings his pen the wrong way and makes smog testing mandatory for all Diesels. A similar thing already happened with my 7.3 l Powerstoke, which didn't need smog until a few years ago. Too much risk on that path, so I passed. Besides, Diesel 4WDs are scarce as hen's teeth, and I'd still be looking for a donor if I'd have gone that direction.

Back to sanding...

77 this morning and headed to 93 today. Currently 88.

Well baby's furniture is here. But still needs to be unloaded. Spent most of the day yesterday at my grandparents helping my uncle put a ramp on their deck. Ended up with a 1 1/4"/foot rise. And a nice smooth transition to the current concrete sidewalk. Ended up short one deck board and 4 hand rail boards. But it can be finished easily one afternoon.

Going to go unload the furniture and then work on some drywall in the bathroom.

Drew. Maybe just put a new set of blades on the mower and show your helper what tree roots make blades look like. He might understand it better. Mine did. Only the damage was done by concrete.
