Drinking first cup of coffee. 51° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 65° with a passing afternoon shower. Got the drive edged yesterday. Been awhile since it was done. Hauled 4 buckles of sod and dirt away. Off to doctor appointment this morning.
On the news last evening they listed the most accident prone intersections in MI. Commerce Twp Pontiac Trail roundabout most accident-prone in Michigan. I have to pass around this bad design. Dumping a 3 lane freeway end into a roundabout must have been someones nightmare.
Those in the way of latest storms be safe.
Good Morning All.

Guys,, My dad was not in D-day but was in Burma. Just as bad or worse. He was attacked by some bug that ate his lungs. Dead at 67. They had to poison him to kill the bug before he could come home. He spent more time in the hospital than prepping the Flying Tigers he was there to make sure would fly.

MKR When I was in Kunming China I had an old man walk up to me and my wife and start talking about the Flying Tigers in very good english. When they were stationed there this old man kinda hung out with them a lot and that is how he learned english. He was moslem but used to go to church with them "because he liked the music". He asked for some small coins for his collection and disappeared before he drew to much attention from the authorities. I have heard that even in the city of Kunming that the area was very poor and lots of dangers. Robbers were plentiful and food was poor, back in those days. In 2000 it was a city of 4 mil. and becoming more modern every year. Ed

Good Morning All. 59 here this morning going to 80. 30% chance of showers this evening. Moved my mechanics tool box yesterday, was going to put it in the garage of the new house but it did not work out so it went in the storage unit, will have to move it again. It is the heaviest thing I own so was hoping to move it once. Would like to learn more about the flying tigers. anyone recommend a good book, Not you Eric, I can't deal with extra fine print, I would look like this. Have a full day of this and that. Have a great day all. Ed

70 going to 88 and sunny.

Finished a landscaping project in the front yard yesterday, but too dark for pix...mostly involved mulch and rocks...not too exciting.

Good morning! 69˚ mostly clear skies. I was finally able to get the tractor out for 3 hours yesterday. I could only work on the top 5% of the property, everywhere else it's like a sponge and the tractor sinks. I was able to remove a large downed cedar tree like the on that fell on my BH and smoothed out some eroded road. Today I'll clean out the garden, I know a little late, but the right time to plant okra.

65 this morning and headed to 80 today. Low tonight of 56. Wow.

All my hay is cut., here at the house. But dad was talking to one of the guys he cuts on and he doubled the area he wants us to cut. Spent most of the day working on the oldest cutter. It's about 20 years old and the cutter bar is rusting out. Called about a new bar and nobody will price me one. Says the cutter isn't worth what the bar cost. As long as I don't stand it up for transport it's fine. When I stand it up all the oil runs out. Slowed the leaks with JB Weld. May have to add some more later. Then about midnight I see light flashes in my backyard. Get up to investigate and it's lightning coming over the hill. Don't think it had much rain with it though.

I've got some hay to tedder today. Dad got down to 3 mph cutting it. We usually cut about 5. Said he kept smoking the belts on the cutter any faster. Plus it was pulling his tractor hard. He's only running 8hp/ft. Then it's work in the chicken coops later. Have to get them setup and ready for birds next week.

over four inches of rain has come down since yesterday afternoon, about to stop, front of property flooded, water over the driveway, lakes everywhere. Hopefully it will drain and go away today. Total of 5.5 inches of rain in two days, nothing compared to Texas but too much for here.

63.8F and pretty sunny @ 09:00 ... high today only supposed to hit 68F - 69F ... which is about 8 degrees below normal. Cooler for the next several days and then more normal temps for a while.

We had several pop up thunderstorms come through the area yesterday but I managed to get the front lawns cut down anyways. Even managed to get some of the field around the gas well mowed as well, before thunder and lighting drove me in. We ended up getting about 1/3" of rain for the day. We're at 1.12" for the month of June, which is not quite double the normal amount. Plenty enough to keep things watered and greened up tho' ...

Assuming it dries up enough today, will have to run over the front lawns again and blow the cut grass into windrows for pick up with the Trac Vac. MMM was cutting much better with sharpened blades.

Got the blades removed from the Simplicity yesterday for sharpening. Really wish we had gotten a second set when we purchased the unit. Last time I checked, one blade was still available and the other was NLA. Takes two blades - one 20 1/8" and the other 26". Oregon has no direct crossover from the Simplicity numbers for either blade, but I gotta think that they have something that would work or could be made to work.

Ran into Akron Bearing to pick up a couple of bearings for the one wheel on the water buffalo. Guy quoted me $8 for a cheaper import bearing and $11 apiece for some NTN's that were made in Canada. Thought they were 6203's but those didn't look right (17 mm ID - looked too big) ... need to get the calipers out and actually measure them. When I told the guy the ID was 5/8", he said he had those too ... but the price went up to $16 apiece for the NTN's ... told him "Sorry, but I can't justify it ..."

I think if you don't have an account with them and just walk in off the street they charge you full list.

I can probably do better at McMaster ... I've always had good luck with them as far as quality goes ... and I'll get it delivered right to my door.

Got the legs and braces tacked and partially welded on the soil screen frame last night. Decided to knock off for the day when I went to sit down on a stool to run a bead and I missed it and landed on the floor on my butt ... Think I should be able to get it finished up today in a couple of hours.

Wife made a rhubarb pie yesterday which was a treat, although a little on the sweet side.

My former "house guest" is now in the area and is currently residing in Summit County Jail.

His latest mugshot is starting to make him look like a poster child for the White Aryan Brotherhood.

Guess the prolonged bus trip didn't agree with him ...

Started at 76° overnight, going to around 90° today, then a big cool down, 76° tomorrow, with 15-25 mph NW winds. Did some welding repairs on my little (14' x 6'4") utility trailer, I loaned it a couple of years ago and it came back with two right side uprights broken loose from the railing. Of course it's not as bad as the one I loaned out to an old friend, and it ended up in Louisiana.

Good morning, We have been having a run of great weather here on the north Bluff. Today is full sun, blue sky,and a nice breeze. I feel bad for all of you getting to much rain. We had that last spring and into summer.
Eric, Love the pictures of your place.
My dad never talked much about his time in Burma, He was a Air Force transport driver supplying material to the landing strips. When he passed away back in 1991 we found some nice pictures of him and the P-51s with the flying tiger paint jobs. Neat planes.
RS, sorry to hear about your pal being back in the area. Must be nerve racking.

mkr,

No worries ... him being extradited back to Ohio means he will face justice and, given his record, likely do some serious time (measured in years)

Better he should be off the street in a place where he can't prey on the public-at-large ... ;)

Good Morning! 72F @ 8:00AM. Plentiful sunshine. High 96F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph.

I'm sitting here watching a jackrabbit watch the hummingbirds feed on the sage blossoms and nectar feeders. Its long ears twitch in different directions as they buzz about the place, but he seems to feel safe in the shade of a large rosemary plant. Aside from a brief stint of face washing, he hasn't moved in over ten minutes.

Yesterday evening at about six a helicopter started circling over the reservoir, some of the passes no more than fifty feet above the house. It turned out to be from the Sheriff's Department, and the news this morning is they were looking for a lost kayaker. Search & Rescue found his boat and supplies, but not him. With the water as cold as it is, they likely won't, as water in the canyon is very deep right now. The search is expanding today with dogs and more boats.

Got the nut plates that will secure the cabinets to the floor of the Vanagon welded in yesterday, and pulled all the window glass as well. The windshield cracked, but it was badly pitted and needed replacement anyway. I have some weed spraying to do this morning, but after that I'll start in drilling more spot welds to remove the roof in preparation for the pop top swap.

Hope everyone gets out and votes today here in California and other states with primary elections. Even if we end up holding our noses for the presidential choices, the local issues are important as well.

Good morning all. 68F going to 89F, moderate wind and mostly clear skies. ran an errand this morning, bike ride, consulting and pick bike from bike shop for TMA. Stepdaughter called with a story from a WWII vet, was on a UDT clearing mines for D-Day  . Said they had to tow the mines away to detonate them, usually detonate in place. Said he worked for four nights mine clearing, then in the morning of the 6th, did path finding duties, and one of the other teams that did mine clearing/path finding hit a mine and exploded.

68°F and 1.49 inches rain last 24 hours.

In keeping with how my year is going, my exercise bike malfunctioned yesterday, no resistance. Thinking it might be the belt slipping, I opened it up. Seemed ok, but tightened a bit anyway. Turning by hand felt OK. Reassembled and 2nd revolution started slipping again. Apparently this function is controlled by a small motor. Unfortunately a replacement costs 1/4 of what the machine cost :( this is a 5+ yo machine., getting started with my first knee replacement. Wife says I shouldn't complain too much as I pretty much got my value from it. I normally do 8-10 miles, 6/7 days a week so I've likely got more than 5,000 miles out of it. I can buy the current equivalent model for almost same price or for a tad more upgrade a bit.

Be safe
Have a great day.
