The pig roast was a success. No rain, although the threat of rain kept some away. Did not get a good count, but ~120 people, including the police chief and a bunch of senior citizens from the local senior center. This is a free meal for the community. One guy brought a segway that i got to ride.

Good morning all, clear skies expected all day and heading towards a very pleasant 23C.

Yesterday was sheep shearing day, my job being to move the sheep on to the shearers and roll the fleeces. It was a warm sticky day and the poor sheep were oozing with lanolin. While the shearing was going on, I had an idea - we could all help Ed not miss rural life too much if we could each suggest a way he can simulate some aspects of rural living when he gets into his new home. I'll kick off with a way he could perhaps replicate something that will be almost as enjoyable as my day yesterday.

Simulated Rural life - Number 1
  • Have a few runs round that pool table until the sweat begins to pour out.
  • Next find a bag of organic manure (or something equally smelly) and mix it with warm water into a wet gloop. Tread your boots in it a few times, then apply liberally to hands and random items of clothing. Don't forget to apply a good dollop into left ear.
  • Spray a full can of Fluid Film lubricant all down your front. Rub it well into hands and arms. Test you have applied enough by attempting to opperate a mobile phone - success with the phone indicates you need to apply some more.
  • Bend over and straiten up again. Repeat until your back pleads for mercy. Show none until your legs are about to buckle too.
You are done. Although this has only been a simulation, you will now be ready for one of the most relaxing hot showers of your life.:)

Eric, at this hour of the morning, that's almost too much. I can just imagine the effect on one's liver as the poor thing tries to filter out the Fluid Film that immediately absorbed through your skin and went right to work in your blood stream lubricating for life. You'd be gunked up for life....like taking a bath in lanolin ooze every day...;)

Warm here, never got below 74 last night, apparently a heat wave going pretty far North.
more rain due in later today
am up early precooking chicken for a stir fry I'm making for dinner with freshly picked snowpeas and green beans. Making dinner for a few friends at my home tonight, and by getting this done now, I both get to plant more sunflowers before the rains come plus maybe get a nap while it rains after lunch.

I love to work in my garden on a Sunday morning. There is a garden saying something to the effect that one is closest to God when one is in one's garden. It's a special quiet time for me, and I sit on the edge of my raised garden, while just enjoying the beauty of the plants near me. Which seem to be growing an inch a day now. Later today I'll pick veggies with guests, and if some critter hasn't gotten it first, my first cucumber. Local hydroponic tomatoes(still a little early...) and cucumber salad, a little home made dressing made of apple cider vinegar, Grey Poupon mustard, olive oil, crushed garlic, lots of herbs, just mixed around and poured on top.
I can do this...

All this rain is making my lawn grow much faster than I'd like. It seems I just finished mowing it...

Thanks Eric, but I think I'll pass. I still have a good memory and I have been living the "city" life for 27 years. Yes we are taking care of 5 ac and have gardens and plow snow ect. But, I can see about 12 houses from my yard, and I cant even pee in my back yard except at night. To me this is CITY. I grew up on a farm with a drive way that was 9/10 of a mile long. I could see a pole light if I stood in just the right place in my yard but it was about 2 mi away. We were 1/2 mile from the river and owned about 2 1/2 miles of river bank. Had 100 brood cows and 2 bulls plus the calves. Hunted in 500 ac of timber we owned + another 500 that belonged to my uncle and grandfather. Never had much money but had all we needed. I truly miss that life but it would take an act of God for me to be able to live like that again. I have many memories and think of them often while in my city home and will continue to in my new city home. I still have to look twice at baseball catchers shin guards when I see them on craigslist. I wanted a pair for when I was working my calves in the chute. Thanks again Ed

Need to get coffee started. 63° with light rain this morning. Heading to 74° with thunderstorms. Got 1.2" of rain overnight. Weather forecast shows we should be getting more normal amounts of rain in the next week. New keyboard on order. Thought I had forgot how to type. But it turns out a couple keys do not work all the time. Mainly the "T" key. Not much planned today. Watch some NASCAR if it does not rain all day in Pocono.
Eric, if I was Ed. I would sit back and enjoy Eric's stories.:D
Good Morning All.

Good Morning Everyone. 66 here this morning going to 80, with a 80% chance of heavy rain again this afternoon. Got 1.53 in in about 2 hours yesterday afternoon and .6 last night. Water running everywhere, makes me think of what you guys in Texas are going through. Plan to spend a large portion of my day in my extra big lazy boy recliner. We hauled 3 loads of stuff to the dump and loaded my big Mac tool box and 2 truck tool boxes in the trailer. I was wiped by the time we got done. Glad for a day of rest.

Thanks Don I will show my wife. Ed

69 and cloudy with 86 bringing thunderstorms later. only got .3 inch last night...northern VA much more.

Got a couple of free tickets to what turned out to be a really nice outdoor festival yesterday - Rassawek Jublilee. Had old restored log cabins to tour, James Madison's greenhouse, antique equipment and cars, 14 local wineries pouring samples, animals, etc. Here are some pix...first is what looked like a wood fired steam engine tractor - "Case" was painted on...don't know if Case made tractors that long ago. Also a 1947 Allis-Chalmers. And for Don, a Whippet car, sorry it's not a Whipper.

58 right now...heading up to a peasant 67. 100% probability of rain today. The prediction went from 1.38" to 1.74" (over a couple days), than decreased to 1.19" as of this morning. We can definitely use the rain...a nice steady rain, not a "cow pissin' on a flat rock" rain.

Good morning,
Sunny, 64 heading to 78. No plans. .25" of rain yesterday was just enough to make things green up.
A few years back I built my wife a water tank for the Gator. It is a 27 gallon plastic tank that I mounted a 12 volt weed sprayer pump to it with a garden hose and a watering wand. I had to reduce the opening on the wand for a better spray using some silicone. She loves it for watering without dragging the hose out and where there is no hose. I will see if I can get a picture of it.

67 this morning and headed to 84 today. 1.2 inches of rain yesterday.

Visit with sister went good. She was in a better mood than I expected. Didn't get home till midnight and son was up at 5:30 this morning.

Need to work in chicken coops today. Get done with the tractor there and get it switched back over to hay. 8-9 days of clear weather forecast. If it holds it'll be more than enough time for us to finish hay this spring. Now if my hay tarp would just show up. It's in Springfield, Ohio being made. Thought it was going to be shipped last week.

Nice pig roast buckeye.

Well, we're getting a nice steady rain...bit cool, but what a nice day! We surely do need this rain!

Good morning! 83˚ mostly sunny no rain today! The ground got another soaking yesterday with 1/2" rain. All our water from the last couple of weeks is heading downstream and the coastal towns, and those 60 miles from the coast are flooding near the rivers. The water downstream is still rising and are suppose to top out tonight before receding. The 100 year flood areas are flooded.

Good Morning
Drinking that much water can get your electrolytes out of whack, might need to replace half that water with Gatorade typeproducts to resore balance. I ended up in the hospital in November 2013 from a problem that started the summer before, sweating and drinking water by the barrel. I had Hyponutremia, low sodium. Once it starts it's hard to reverse and balance out. My hands were shaking so badly I couldn't even sort papers. Nausia, felt like the flu all the time.

76.8F partly sunny and breezy, with lots of fast moving clouds rolling by. Forecast high for today was only 75F, so we've already beat that.

Local weather station down the road reports .75" of rain for the month so far, gotta think that most of that happened within the last 24 hours. Had a couple of good downpours yesterday. Should be enough to avoid having to water anything for a few days. Need to check and see if there is any ponding in the garden area.

Got the area above polebarn where the log/trash pile was all cleaned up yesterday. Also got the trimming mowing on the front lawn done with the Simplicity and finished one small section down by the house that I had overlooked. Nice having it running again. Need to take the deck off and remove the blades and sharpen them.

Went to HF and picked up three tire/wheel combos ... got home and found out the length of the hub is too long for the axles on the carts ... so they will probably be going back. They have other 13" tire/wheel combos that might have a shorter hub ... but I think the tires on those are only 4" wide, rather 5" and rated for 50 lbs less (300 lbs vs 350 lbs)

Also grabbed a 3' long squeeze pick up tool (for picking up sticks before mowing without having to get off the Simplicity), an electronic fly swatter (the idiot managed to destroy our other one when he was clowning around), and a machete (for dividing hostas and the like) Also stopped by Ace Hardware while I was out and picked up some paint strainers and cheese cloth for the straining the honey.

Looks like The Woman's report that "the bees have all left" was incorrect ... there was enough of them (50 ?) that they managed to dig past the duct tape sealing the cavity in the wall and are busily reconstructing their former abode. At the rate they work, I'm sure that they'll have nice new digs and a new queen in a few weeks. When I got up she had a web page open about constructing a beehive using Mason jars ... another one for the "honey do" list ...

Got all the 45 degree cuts done for the stand for the soil screener last night. Started tacking it together and something wasn't looking right ... forgot I had moved the rear legs forward on the last redesign ... so those will have to be trimmed off and moved. Fortunately they are only tacked. Did manage to get to the front legs tacked on (in the correct place ...) before I knocked off in disgust.

Be nice to get that finished ... we are running low on screened compost and I have lots to screen, but it's way too nice out today to spend any time messin' with it. Assuming that it's reasonably dry that is.
