24 going to 37...first time above freezing in a while. Got a dusting of snow last night...more on the way tomorrow.

Took my wife to Costco yesterday for a pre-snowmageddon stock up, and hit Chuy's for chile rellenos to harden the body against the cold. Looked at the generators at Costco and decided to not pull the trigger...still taking my chances for now on the power.

Eric, how and why do you do a WFU (whole flock ultrasound)?

10F clear sky mid 20' for high.
If holds true nasty storm will stay south of us follow by little warm up....fingers cross.

Enjoy the day all.

35 now and going to 71 and SUNNY today. Going to town for breakfast (Flying Biscuit), then TS for animal chow ( horse, dog, goat). Might go to the farmers market here to see what is there, then work on the wagon some more.

I too was wondering why you would do an ultra sound on a herd?

Poured first cup of coffee. 50° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 69° with bright sun all day. Taking wife to doctor for her annual checkup. Then back to do some more patio time and maybe a bike ride.
Drew, I doubt that your tractor would break pavers. My motorhomes 15K lbs rear axle has set on them for 8 years. Not one broke. It has settled about 4". One of my many projects for this coming summer. Leveling them back up. Have you looked at TSC rubber horse mats.
Good Morning All.

24 this morning and headed to 37 today.

Forecast keeps looking worse and worse. Current winter storm warning is for a quarter inch of ice and 10-14 inches of snow.

Plans for today are to see how much crusting I can get done before wife's doctors appointment. Then prep for snow. Grader blade is still on but need to check fluids in that tractor. Need to check gas supply for generator. Maybe change oil too.

The whole flock ultrasound is for a pregnancy check I'm sure. The larger guys who AI use them here on cattle. Faster and more accurate than the other methods. I personally use a blood test for my cows. Some still use their arm and a shoulder glove. Ultrasound can also be used to check meat quality. But that's only for slaughter ready animals.

Good Morning. 0815, overcast, 53F with 97% humidity. Forecast high of 69F with 20% chance of rain today, and a low of 57F tonight. We had a nice long rain shower starting around 2330 last night that was not part of the forecast. I'm watching last night's FSU-Louisville game this morning. I was actually having to work at work last night when the game was on. Louisville is really, really good. Margie is my customer tonight. They are having poll worker training. If they get done early I might just camp tonight. It's been over a week since I have slept on the ground. Starting to have withdrawals.

You guys with the ice and snow be careful. Have a good one,

Larro

21° early, got an inch of powder overnight, the green that just started showing after last Sunday's snow, is all covered again. looks more like my prediction is coming true, a little snow and a lot of rain and wind for us, hallelujah!

Good morning! 56˚ misty.

Drew the 3/4" horse mats cut easy with a utility knife and bending them slightly, and they hold up good. When Ron came over we added another row - see pic below. The pavers at box stores are rated for walking, the ones I got from Acme Brick are rated for traffic and there was no problem with a full Septic clean-out tank truck on them.

Good Morning! 44F @ 8:00 AM. Cloudy skies with periods of rain late. Low 52F. Winds SE at 10 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 100%. Rainfall near a half an inch.

More web work this morning, then a grocery run to town this afternoon.

Have a good one everybody!

thanks for the good ideas. I'm looking for a less expensive covering than 750 plus install labor. Rubber mats I can do myself, and I'd only need them along the sides of the tractor where one walks. Tractor always brings in mud, let the center part stay ABC and whatever.
I might just wander on down to TSC, almost the closest store to my home. Most convenient....

trucker got cold feet after last delivery and didn't want to bring my ABC this morning, even after spending two hours yesterday afternoon and half the sand delivered making sure the next load could get in. It may be weeks or months before I can start again if the weather stays wet. I'm ok where I am now, things left to finish, but won't slow down other projects.

well that means I have the afternoon free so it's off to prune the orchard. Only need a stepladder for now.

had to chuckle, only a matter of time before the E word was used

Epic blizzard for East Coast

all those wonderfully exaggerated terms for a nice big snow of our youth.
When you actually did get a snow day off from school.

Back home, warming up after 4 hours of chasing ewes around pens into a sheep race so they could be scanned. The ewes were none too keen and it was so cold and wet that the humans didn't think it much fun either.

Colored marker paint now shows them in one of 4 groups :-

  • Expecting single lambs
  • Expecting twin lambs
  • Not sure how many, but definately pregnant.
  • Barren

After scanning, those that are not pregnant can go to market anytime. Without knowing they are barren it becomes a long waiting game for nothing to happen. It supposedly saves money by only having to give extra feed to those with more than 1 lamb. In addition, if ewes with a single lamb have too much feed and the lamb grows too big, they can have problems giving birth.

Is it really worth the effort ? I have my doubts, but on the other hand, the vet only charges a very modest amount for this service. His job was the worst, as he sat all the time low down on a cold plastic chair with his arm out stretched, while the freezing rain came at him sideways from behind.

67°F and .09 inches rain since midnight, slight drizzle as I type.
So glad I got the new ridge cap on the cottage yesterday :)

Be safe
Have a great day

Yep, a dusting of snow and Washing DC is shut down? Maybe Atlanta will loan them their snow removal equipment?

We do pretty well here on the Eastern Shore, even though we don't get as much snow as they do, usually. But we have a lot of 4WD and tractors over here.:D

That's pretty funny. A fellow I know from Tomahawk Nation did a spoof of the "big" 2014 snowstorm in Atlanta.

That was hilarious!
Thanks for posting it!
