had to chuckle, only a matter of time before the E word was used

Epic blizzard for East Coast

all those wonderfully exaggerated terms for a nice big snow of our youth.
When you actually did get a snow day off from school.

saturday they will probably move on to the next letter to describe it.

.5" of snow last night.

It was unbelievable going to work this morning. I saw the number of accidents on google maps and turned the alarm off and slept some more. When I did go in, they were still in the process of salting the interstate at 9 am. For the 20 or so miles of Interstate I drive, I must have seen signs of 50+ accidents where people went off the road and hit the guardrail down the center of the interstate. Undriveable ones were still sitting, most looked like they just drove on. This was based on the tracks in the snow and the dents in the guardrail. The state was already out flagging the damaged guardrail sections for the contractors to repair.

They are now predicting 24+ inches for my area, and wind. going to be a fun weekend. gotta go out in the morning and get some extra diesel and gas.

Wow. You folks actually get guardrails repaired? It takes years here. Of course we have some of the worse roads in the country.

You guys be safe. 24 inches is a lot of snow, even here in Michigan.

Good evening. Well my first encounter with getting used tractor parts on e-bay for the 1947 Farmall A is 50% that would be an "F". I got a U bolt that was suppose to be a steering tie rod holder. ??? However the good news is the tie rods from another dealer were a perfect match. Now I have to do someone else's job and send the U bolt to the right place, and hope the tie rod holder was not sent to another. What a mess, arrg.

Good evening, went to a friend's fathers funeral today and although a few cars stopped, I was disappointed in how many people were disrespectful by not stopping for the funeral procession. I guess that is the me generation. Cars not stopping coming the opposite way is one thing but cars going in the same direction actually passing the procession is another.:mur:

they do know how to waste money here, why do you think O'smiley is running for president. They will replace a section of guardrail when it gets scratched, course some of that cost might come from your insurance company if they know who did it.

A fellow I know from Tomahawk Nation did a spoof of the "big" 2014 snowstorm in Atlanta.

Hope your friend made it through that winter, that was funny.

This could be a busy day. Had two calls late yesterday. The first was to say we have enough people available to block road junctions while we walk some sheep up a couple of roads. These sheep are struggling on waterlogged ground, with a lot more rain due today, so I will take them in for a while.

Second call was to say fish are ready for the pond that keeps getting invaded by aliens. Should be here in 10 minutes, so I better go now.

21 going to 29 today.

I guess I should have bought that generator - they aren't backing off that 20-24 inch snow forecast and 35 mph winds. Anyone want to visit snowy Virginia (and bring a generator they're not using)? At least I cut another load of firewood yesterday.

I did do some generator research yesterday...had been confused by what size and type, dBs...THD ...inverter...gas or LP, extension cords, or transfer box? Saw a good thread on TBN that is currently active.

The snow has started only thing to keep us from a 30 inch thumping storms to the east robbing our moisture 23 this morning high of 28 later today. Time to finish what we did not get done yesterday

27 going to 41 today in rain and ice pellets, absolutely a gukky day, but for sure better than two feet of snow.
Well, I wouldn't ask a ten year old that with a sled in his hand...

Billie, I have a 9kw Honeywell (Chonda) you can borrow. If you can get here....
Three kinds of gens, totally portable with extension cords (run the fridge, freezer and electric heaters-need some good heavy duty extension cords, not the cheap orange stuff), totally portable with a house plug in, meaning an electrician has installed a plug in panel for certain circuits and you can switch off the utility power fully and plug your portable gen in. Makes Plan A easier. Plan C is a whole house gen.
All name brand gens will run at 5% Total harmonic distortion or less. They say... At least it will run all battery chargers, including laptops usually fine.

A full house gen will cost you about 7-9 grand to have installed, based on whether you have 200 or 400 amp service. I can happily run my whole 400 amp house off my 22kw Generac. But then I've learned to immediately switch off hot water heaters and such. In the last year my power has gone out at least 7 times. I do love my generator...12 seconds later the lights come back on. As we get older, boy is that worth it.

I think one of those small Generacs run by a 20# propane bottle would be a very cool solution. Propane doesn't foul the engine's carb like gas and the engine runs cleaner. Nor does the fuel go bad. (in fact I have to go drain the gas out of my portable this coming week because even though I run it every few months, the gas Stabilized or not is going bad, though I used non ethanol gas)

Might head out to a new beanery in town to get some breakfast before the precip comes in. Will hit us around 8am it appears. Sleet and ice pellets to begin with, rain today, turning over to snow tomorrow with 1-3 inches still predicted. I intend to spend tomorrow in front of the fireplace and let it run all weekend.

Good Morning. 0445, thunderstorm, 61F with 93% humidity. Forecast high of 62F with 90% chance of rain today, and a low of 34F tonight. We are under a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning. I slept through Margie's friend calling to warn us there was a tornado near us, but got woke up by the wind and the rain. It's past us now, and it looks like this will be the last of the rain for the day. I hope I can go back to sleep. We are having my delayed birthday supper at Sister's tonight since I had to work every other night this week.

You guys have a good one,

Larro

Drew,
Thanks for the primer, and the offer. Not sure I'd drive that far for a generator, but you said a new Beanery...well that's a different matter altogether. :)

am off to TSC after breakfast to check out rubber horse mats. Measured, calculated and I can use the mats for half the price of buying new pavers. The tractor sits in the middle, on ABC shortly, now dirt, and I'll run the four foot wide mats down each side of the tractor. Will actually fit quite nicely, and where I used some nice decorative pavers near the door to the woodshop, I can cut the mat to fit.
Hopefully the mats won't be stamped with the Confederate Flag...:D

ok, I won't misspell your name again Billy...;) Drewie

I got a good belly laugh out of that.

Good. we've all heard laughter is the best medicine...

started snowing here a bit early, going to get interesting. Headed out for breakfast.
And I like bad weather...once a fireman. Well perhaps respect is a better word, and safety always.
With a 4wd truck and new Michelin tires if I have a problem it won't be because of my driving...

Lot of ditches here for people to go into...and very poorly experienced winter drivers.

Sitting drinking coffee in warm house from the heat of the wood stove awaiting the Epic Snowmageddon Blizzard of 2016... it is 22 outside and no snow yet.

Rhett (the dog) woke me up 45 min earlier than he usually does because I assume he wanted to see if the snow was here yet. Everything is closed, every school, function, etc. is cancelled. Hoepfully the rods are better. My office is open it seems, but I'm working from home today.

The Biggest issue is I've not got the snowplow mounted yet on my trusty rusty Ranger, because it is a 2 person job and my wife's back is just recovered from a minor tweak so...

I'm also almost out of wood, so I need to go cut some more (I've got tons of bucked logs, just need it cut in splitable sizes and moved to the house). I also need one jerry can of diesel filled, and I need to take the redbox back from last night so I will go out and brave the Epic Snowstorm sometime soon...

I wonder how much I can get done before the Blizzard wipes out all civilization???

Personally I'm looking forward to a snow day or two and some sledding on the backyard hill...

Be warm & well all,
David
