The air cooled Deutz diesel engines do not routinely come with glow plugs.

As a yooper, should I be concerned with -20 degree starting in the middle of Winter? With a sizeable investment like this, I want certainty of being able to start when I want to start it.

Any comments from the diesel experts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Haven't tried at -20, but my 1845 started fine a number of times at +10, without any kind of block or oil heater. It has started every time I've tried - unlike the Kubotas with glow plugs, JD, etc. I'm no diesel expert, but it's the best starting diesel I've ever had.

Hi Charlie,

Speaking of winter use, Power Trac is telling me that if I want a snowblower, I HAVE TO buy their 72" snowblower and not the 60" from the 1430 to put on the 1845.

They had no problem with the 60" flail mower, 60" tiller or the mini hoe from the 1430. I do not see the problem. I only wanted a 72" finish mower, not a 72" snow blower.

What do you think?

Thanks

I have no idea why they would insist on the larger unit. I assume it has to do with a little higher PTO output, but 6 feet is a pretty big snow blower. I only have the blade and never discussed the blower.

I would assume that the hydraulic motor on the 60" blower is not rated for the volume (and or pressure) that the 1845 pto circuit produces. I had inquired about buying a fertilizer spreader that was listed for the 1430 for use on my 1845 but was told that in order to use it I would need to buy a diverter assembly at an additional cost of $250 (to reduce hydraulic flow) to use it on the 1845.

The manual for my Deutz engine lists glow plugs as an option. It also lists starter fluid injection as an option. You might contact Deutz USA and ask them about starting at your projected temperatures. Deutz
