Generator Selection?

That's what the check book is for,
write the check, I'll be back in two days to pick up the truck.

What is a check book. I use credit cards or cash. They would not take credit card for over $2,000. My checks are only printed thru quickbooks. I wasnt planning on buying a truck.

I ended up financing it thru Toyota Credit, as there was no f8nance charge to do so. I paid it off on the first billing. Toyota ate the finance charge.

What do we think about the portable dual fuel units? There are several similar units, but I see this one on HD for example:

It has a 50A RV style outlet that I could wire into the ATS already installed. Priced at $1500. One big drawback is no auto-start or transfer which means going outside in possibly bad weather, but I do that now. And they're in stock and ready to ship.


There's also a 13000/10500 model for $100 more:

Anyone can brand a product under another name. This unit is a pulsar manufactured product made in asia... probably china.

supposedly uses a Ducar engine , i remember running one in a gocart years ago.

than again, ford probably isnt made in usa either anymore.

I just took delivery of a Westinghouse WGen9500DF. I think it was $938. + tax from Amazon (out of stock every place else). Dual fuel, push button start, remote start, both 50a and 30a outputs as well as 4 120's.
I haven't had a need to use it yet, but it looks very well made.

I bought the same model for 1049 from Amazon in November, price has been steadily rising. Mine started and ran just fine on a 30 pound propane tank but
have gasoline available for winter use. I have had other Westinghouse gens and the experience has always been good. E0 gas is unavailable locally so really trying to
keep the gasoline out of it unless no other choice.

just remember the bigger the gen, the more btu's it consumes to run, and the less likely that vaporization from small propane tanks in the winter will work.
If you have a big tank and can tap in, no brainer, best way to go.

I looked at that one and the remote start seems cool, but I'd still need to go out to flip the transfer switch. Plus that means you'd have to keep it fueled if using gasoline. Whatever I go with will be connected to a 500 gallon LP tank. If I go with a portable, it would still only be temporary until I can get a fixed mount standby unit, so I don't really want to spend a whole lot.

If I though one of the 12K portables would do the job long term, I'd be a bit more willing to go that way instead of the fixed mount units.

You could buy 3 of the portables for the cost of a fixed mount.

Diggin It, I think 12k is the largest you/they can go on a single cylinder air cooled gen,
before they have to upsize to a twin, and then price jumps. Would be nice if Honda were in this market, I think they
plateau at gens using their EFI 390 motor, which is a wonderful and pricey engine for sure.
I'd love to have their V690 running on propane as my gen motor. Hooked up to a full 500 gallon propane tank.

But when you say the term "long term", first thing I think of is going slower than 3600 rpm. And not much choice there
without spending a lot more money and/or going to diesel. Spending this kind of money I was motivated to get a brand name with
local service. And if I could have a shiny little badge that said Ford Tough on my Hunan Province generator, one hopes the promise of
adequate parts is fulfilled. Just wait til the first guy goes into his truck dealership and asks
Parts for plugs and filters on his Ford gen. If they were smart, they would stock them.
