this is my thoughts on this.

3. as soon as you are back, get busy moving you fence back to the property line maybe add some weedburner charger to the top as well.. if you leave them keep using it then you can lose it.

Mark

My thoughts to the T. You can loose your property if the fence is not in the proper location and the neighbor is using it. Thanks for your service. I am sorry to hear that you have such CRAPPY neighbors. Terry

As a parent of an active duty Marine (Iraq deployment), this also burns me up.

We live in a rual area of our county and have had trespassing issues but not to the extent you had. Our land backs up to a Federal Game reserve. You might get more action from the game and wild life officer in your area as part of the incidents are poaching related. As our trespassing had to do with poaching that is who I contacted first. I called the state 800 number to report the poaching and filed a report. The next day the local game warden called to follow up. Like you I had no proof. But as they were passing through to get to the Federal land they took it more serious. While they never cought the guys they did notify the Game Reserve management and increased patrols in the area.

As a active hunter I have found that the Game Wardens take their jobs very serious and would even do a stake out to catch the suspects.

Best of luck in your situation and thanks for your service.

Our prayers are with all the service men and women.

I know everybody is pretty hot about this, but please let's not say anything without thinking that could make things worse for ZetorShaun's wife. She is the one living in this community with this problem. We don't know this Sheriff...be careful, please.

Consider this product, you can see what they captured too on the web.

BuckEye Cam

If you get a German shepherd, have it sleep in the house with your wife. They will hear a pin drop and be a great friend to your wife. I know when I'm away, I feel so much better knowing our German shepherd will look after her. Your stuff can be replaced, your family can't.

On your outside lights, put them in vandal proof enclosures.

My last German Shepherd was Panzer (left photo), he passed at 13+ just before I deployed, an old man.

My new GSD is Aiko (right photo), he is young, strong, and sleeps on the floor next to my wife, rides in her truck wife her, and doesn't leave her side. My wife is getting one of Aiko's cousins, a two year old female.

Like toomanyrocks said, my spouse does not want to push the sheriff angle however I am working a tactic with Thumper that should get the desired results. Discretion is probably best.

I am looking at the way ahead, the way forward. The incident and the lack of response by the sheriff are the past. I need to emplace effective security measures to document/gather evidence of repeated violations and demonstrate a pattern of behavior and promulgate effective deterrence. That is my goal. The sheriff matter is a crisis of leadership and ability, there is nothing that I can do about that. Their lack of action on previous violations have created a crime conducive environment whereby violators know what the are able to do, the exact point that is likely to stimulate a law enforcement response. Frankly, that standard has not yet been discovered. I also need to limit the battle damage assessment and intelligence regarding the psychological impact that this has had on my wife by limiting the exposure that would allow the subject to assess the impact of the attack.

The best counter insurgency tactic I had considered was early on in the relationship. I wanted to hire him to assist with the fence. That would have endeared him to the fence as a source of accomplishment, provided monetary reward in exchange for actual work, and established a good repore. The early and immediate breakdown in communications sidetracked that mission. I also may be totally wrong, it may be that another subject is responsible.

In any event, I am prepared to spend the $5-8K or more that will improve my security posture, foster my wife's confidence in the farm and our rural lifestyle, provide for evidence collection, and provide the best protective measures possible.

This is the reality of the circumstances. jinjimbob, I had not thought of the tamper-proof protection for the lights, thanks. Thanks to all, some really good ideas out there.

I can't remember if this has been mentioned or not but a repeat won't hurt.

For security cameras consider getting IR based video for not time use. A guy I work with installs security systems and he recommended IR for night time use. You can flood the area with IR light that is not visible to humans but sure is visible to the cameras.

When we built our house I wired the house for security cameras but never did install them. I ran Coax and put power where the cameras were located but alas the technology moved to CAT5/6. There are also wireless camera solutions for IP networks. The good stuff was pricey when I was looking at it years ago.

Dan

Hey Shaun, now that's a $10 sentence!

I am with you. I think it could be a real problem if strangers from around the country start accusing or criticizing local officials by e-mail or contacting the media. Shaun said he was a state trooper before he was deployed so he knows the system and how to work it. Not sure about Shaun's area but down here the "Good ol' Boys" can be very vindictive if you step on their toes and threaten their turf. Better to leave that until Shaun is home full time.

If you put up electric fence be sure and look at more upscale chargers. ($500 plus) as they have alarm outputs. We are currently getting ready to install two as low level security, one at a tree farm in N TX and one at a chemical co. in SE TX. As we gain more experiance with this security technique I will report results for all. Not even close to suggesting any one model yet.
