Why do towns with gravel roads run a grader over them yearly? It seems to smooth out the pot holes.

I maintain 50 miles of gravel roads. I only blade them to make repairs. And I only the material necessary to make those repairs. Never cut the compacted surface material unless I have to.

Tell me about frost heaves. That is a major issue in our part of the bush..

Two feet is a mild first month of winter, We have frost 6+ feet deep right now.

I have 4 ft, 6 ft is a lot of frost, the roads are pretty bad, I can't open two buildings right now, it's a pain..

try keeping up a gravel/dirt road when getting 10' of rain in a year- I got 30" in 30 days at one point

No matter where you live there is always something to deal with.
Rain, snow, hurricanes, tornadoes fires.

Well not sure who is bigger?!? An inch of snow here is apocalyptic. It can be 10 degrees one night and raining the next. Tough on roads. One of wettest winters on record. Don’t have to mow yard anymore the catfish do that now.
