Can someone answer this question... why can't I find any 6010 rods? I'll go to Tractor Supply or Matheson welding supply I only see 7018, 6011 and some others but NEVER 6010. Everyone talks about 6010. Do they require special handling? or are people stealing them and selling them on the black market?

You need to go to a professional welding supply or order them. 6010 are more of a professional users rod. Not a "hobby" or farmers rod. Pipeliners all use 6010. 6011 is the same rod except it has arc stabilizers in the flux to allow use on AC machines. 6010 is a DC only rod.

Most of my SMAW is done with 7018. If you have some rusty metal you need to weld, just use 6011.

I never have any trouble buying 6010 you don't need a oven to keep them warm like 70 18.

Do they require special handling?
Yes, sometimes 6010, and 6011 will dry out. Just dip them in water and let drip dry overnight, then they are good as new.

Tractor supply hasn't had them when I've been in there. I think overall it's the wrong place to shop seriously for your welding supplies. But most bona-fide welding stores should have them.
