Electric fence

I have a 8' high-tensile electric fence (alternating hot/ground wires) that has kept deer out of my orchard for two years now. I get my stuff from Kencove (Electric Fence, High Tensile Fencing Supplies) and really like the Stafix X-series chargers. I run mine off of a battery with two HF solar panels to keep it charged.

Training with peanut butter is effective and entertaining if you get to watch...

Have you ever seen the deer jump your 8' fence? I have read they can clear twelve foot but have no facts to back it. We train unfamiliar horses to electric fence. We hose their chests with water and then walk them in to it. If we don't they will run through it. They won't feel the shock until they have ripped the fence down. Then they are loose on the road.

Thanks for all the information! What type of underground wire do I need? Is the "undergate" wire the best or is there something else that will work as well for a better price?

FI-SHOCK Model 500-552. 12.5 gauge insulated steel wire cable. Fi-Shock Electric Fence Systems for Your Animal Containment & Control Needs | Fi-Shock. There was a suggestion for running this wire through PVC tubing under gates. Necessary for horse, car, or tractor traffic over the wire but not necessary for people traffic. I buy this wire at Tractor Supply.
