edgers

I am looking to buy an edger, but having never used one, I am confused between the various styles( motor down by the unit, stick type- like a trimmer, and what appears to be a compromise unit made by DR and Mantis.) I would appreciate any advice and feedback from any of you who have used edgers, both on what style and what brand. Thank You.
