Hello, dear friends. I'm writing to you in hopes of receiving some good advice and constructive feedback.
I work in landscape design and lawn maintenance. I currently use a JCB 403 skid-steer loader (2010 model, manufactured in the UK, equipped with a Deutz engine). Overall, I'm satisfied with it, with one exception: the tire size (10/75/15.3).
Recently, I was offered a brand-new Heracles H190 skid-steer loader for $25,000. This is a new Chinese-made loader equipped with a Kubota engine and larger tires (31/15.5/15). I have the option to choose between a standard boom or a telescopic boom—at the same price.
I believe I could sell my current loader for approximately $19,500 and potentially negotiate a small discount on the new unit.
The key technical difference is that the new loader features conventional solid axles, whereas my JCB uses four individual hydraulic motors—one driving each wheel. Does this design difference actually matter in practical terms? Is there a real advantage to either system?
Alternatively, perhaps I should simply look for wider tires and rims for my existing JCB. I've managed to find wider tires, but I can't locate compatible rims, and I'm not even sure what rim size I actually need.
Has anyone here had experience with the Heracles H190? How does it perform in sand and muddy conditions? What is the build quality of its frame like? And ultimately, would sticking with my proven JCB still be the smarter choice?
Any insights or personal experiences you could share would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
