Eco Boost vs V8

Congratulations on getting a new truck. 2WDs are great for where you live. Less to go wrong if you don't need 4WD. Pictures? Can we get pictures?

Yes, I had a 2wd and 4wd truck for a while(only have one truck now, which happens to be 4wd).

The 2wd truck worked great most of the time; we kept the 4wd because it is 3/4 ton for towing the 5th wheel.

It is hard to imagine, it was not all that long ago, that we pretty much survived with 2wd pickups any ways. Although 4wd has been available for decades, it was not till what, the 1980's maybe, that we started to see a plethora of 4wd pickups, and then SUV's.

How did everyone survive before that? They did it with a 2wd.

Not saying that 4wd isn't nice in mud/snow, but we got around fine in 2wd for a long long time.

So you think everyone on the country needs one...... confused???? Fortunately I have no plans on moving to that part of the country. I'll be in south Carolina in 7 years when I sell mine. Enjoy your 4wd and bad weather.

Great thing about a 2WD truck is that the cable on the tow truck will always reach you. :D

??? Why would I need a tow out of the ditch with it sitting in the garage the 3 days a year we get snow. I don't think you understand exponentially.

Oh I thought that you would come up to the great white north (wave to you as I cruise on bye comment) then again probably not a great idea with a 2wd truck.

And I guess you never need 4wd while towing also? Neighbourg of mine that tows a 35ft 5ft wheel camper never saw the need for anything more than 2wd-till he tried one...

Congratulations on your new Ford. What was your decision process over the V8? Pictures and packages?
I think I just wanted to try out the new technology, and it will probably be fun to drive. I think I would have been happy with the V8 as well (tried and proven); just felt like trying out something new.

As far as packages, it is the XLT with the 302A equipment package which makes it pretty much top of the line XLT. It is also equipped with the electronic lock RR axle (posi-traction to old schoolers like me).

I also chose the supercab over the supercrew. I kicked that back and forth quite a bit. The truck I traded was supercrew, and I felt like the bed was a little smaller than I like. Finally decided I would prefer the extra bed space over the larger rear doors. Just me and the wife now and I won't have more that 2 passengers very often. I'll try to get some pics and post them later.

Jerry, congrats on the new truck.
Thanks Bob. I think we have talked here on TBN before. If I remember correctly, we live fairly close to each other. We'll have to get together sometime and have a cup of coffee.

Wow! I started this thread asking for opinions of ecoboost vs V-8 FORDS. I didn't mean for it to get into a brand pi**ing match. Anyway since it has gotten a little heated, I guess I'll throw a little gas on the fire. The reason I now will pick Ford over Chevy has little to do with mileage, towing, torque, HP, yada yada yada. I dropped GM when they became O'Bama motors. Nuff said about that. Don't want to get this thread deleted or moved. It's been pretty interesting.

Well anyway, picked up my new F-150 Ecoboost 2WD !ghast! today. It appears some of you think it will be totally useless since it is not 4WD. We don't get much snow here in my neck of the woods. I have never owned a 4WD and have never thought I needed one.

So I chose the Ecoboost. Time will tell whether or not I think I made a good decision. So far so good on my 20 mile trip home from the dealer, LOL.

Congrats on buying a Ford. Like you said, it's not Government Owned.

What gear ratio did you get?

Chris

Wrong. I have no desire to go north.

Correct. I never need 4wd while towing.

Congrats! Did you get an 8ft bed? I'm pretty sure you can get the crew cab now with a 6.5' bed. Used to be only 5.5'

Got the 6.5' bed. An 8 footer would be too long for me. The 6.5 is about right for me. I think I am going to be happy with the setup I got.

Back from my trip for those who care. One pic is from the entire trip and the other is an hour at 68.4 mph. Hopefully not upside again. 20.6 at 68 mph on winter gas isn't a bad number but I am sure some won't be impressed. I have checked every tank and the trip computer is always plus or minus .1 on hand calculation. I had a couple tanks it was off by .2 mpg.
The one hour reading was 100% interstate. The total trip included some two lane, parking lots and a drive thru restaurant.

That would be the configuration of my next truck when the monkeys are off my back. 6.5 bed with the supercrew was too long but would have given me the max payload option. Just would hate to park it on the lots.

Get it broke in and enjoy one of the quickest trucks on the road.

Forget all the haters. Let's see the GM or Dodge boys post numbers close in a truck that's as capable. Not happening.

NICE! If I was 16 again and my dad bought this same truck I would find a way (ANY way) to lock the rear diff and do smoky burnouts in front of the tasty freeze on Friday night :jester:

You'll enjoy the truck, Fred
