Eco Boost vs V8

Thanks for posting

Sorry to say but Really not impressed!

You consumed 12.56Litres/100km (converted to metric)

My 2006 4.8l 4x4 sierra extended cab eats 2.44litres more than your new 2wd truck and that's with 31" procomp A/T 4 speed auto and 224000km.

Not worth it!
Ridiculous comparison. Not even close to the same capacity. I feel bad for you when your truck with much less capability eats more gas. I am just happy mines eats less than the 6.2 liter I considered buying because I need the towing capability.

It also has 100 less HP and 150 FT less TO and struggles to tow 6000#. His truck makes 365 HP and 420 FT TQ and has tires as large or bigger stock. Oh yea, it can tow 11,000# plus with ease. Chris

Empty is empty! Fair comparison. What is not is comparing a useless 2wd truck to a 4x4

Don't feel bad it's paid for a loooong time ago! Sure it did better when new.

Looking forward to your dismal return trip mileage lol

I don't mine. This one was paid for the day I picked it up. I pay cash for new every 10 years. An empty more capable truck is going to use more gas than the fuel efficient model. Like I said, it is better than the 6.2 it competes with. Had I need efficiency, I'd of bought the 3.7 liter which probably produces similar power to yours. I think it is pretty good mileage for a 3.73 rear and winter gas. I am still smiling about comparing a chevy 4.8 liter to the ecoboost. I'll wave when I purr by in the passing lane.

I agree 18 mpg give or take with a 2wd 1/2 ton isn't very impressive. Running empty I get 17.5 to 18.5 out of my 2500 ram 6.7 4x4 crew can long bed with the 6 speed manual. It would do better but it goes into regen and hurts the mileage. The 2013/2014 1 to rams are getting as good of mileage as the "ecoboost" if not better. I test drove 2 ecoboost and was not impressed.

I like the Ram trucks but it didn't have enough payload capacity for me to consider it. Different thread for that discussion. 18 MPG at 75 MPH I think is pretty good. My last truck was a dodge Dakota with a 4.7 liter and it would have gotten about 15 MPG on this trek and was a toy in comparison.

The 3/4 ton and 1 ton ram doesn't have enough capacity for you but your ford 1/2 ton does? The max tow on the half ton ram is 10,450 and the max payload is 1,930 not that far of from ford is it? Not trying to pick a fight here the ecoboost just does not impress me 18 mpg in a 2wd 1/2 is not impressive at all in my opinion.

1 hour on the interstate with the cruise control set at exactly 75 miles per hour. I was on a slight uphill section of the road. Normally the boost would be about the same place but below the zero. I have a super crew 2 wheel drive with the max tow package which includes a 3.73 rear end.

hmmmm.... why on earth would you buy a 2WD crew cab....

My tundra is 2wd crew. I own a 97 F150 4wd if I need to go into an area requiring it. I have an issue taking a 30k truck into areas where it can get damaged. I have owned several 4wd trucks and seldom used it. Of course it does not snow here. I also couldnt justify the cost difference. Different needs for everyone I guess.

Didn't want a 3/4 ton or above. My yellow sticker well equipped without the max payload package has 1835 lbs payload. Have you researched rams 1/2 ton trucks payload? They are the worst in the segment. Ram 1/2 tons equipped like mine are around 1100 lbs. I do like the drivetrains in the ram but they don't build in payload capacity to take advantage of it. Well equipped Rams are overweight with 5 adults. Had I opted for max payload it would have added about 500 lbs more to my payload.

75 MPH is a lot different than 60 which is the sweet spot for many trucks. Show me another gas vehicle with equal torque that will do this and I will be impressed with it as well.

I planned on purchasing a 4wd and had the funds to purchase it but the same week I ordered my truck, I also bought a $11,000 jeep wrangler for my daughter. Didn't want to finance either so I left the 4wd option off. Here is that said wrangler winching out a nice 3/4 ton diesel Ram resting on its frame. Almost flipped it over on its side while winching. Back of the jeep is strapped to a tree. This was just about a month ago.

My truck stays on the garage on days like this and I play with the jeep.

Anymore questions not pertaining to this thread?

Wave on! I'll give you a tow out of the ditch when you take it on the snowy roads here.

Put even my puny 6000lbs capacity behind your "amazing" echo boost doing the same trip and your mileage would drop exponentially.

Not impressed!

Smart. No need for 4wd if you have no snow or off road conditions you would use it for. A limited slip gets you plenty of traction. Mine is 4wd but I am In mud or snow on a regular basis.

Not everyone needs 4x4 depending on geographics. I've seen a few people in PA buy massively lifted 2wd Texas trucks and convert them to 4x4 to survive here..Not many blizzards in southern TX....Personally, given the environment I live in, I'd never be without it.

??? Why would I need a tow out of the ditch with it sitting in the garage the 3 days a year we get snow. I don't think you understand exponentially.

Wow! I started this thread asking for opinions of ecoboost vs V-8 FORDS. I didn't mean for it to get into a brand pi**ing match. Anyway since it has gotten a little heated, I guess I'll throw a little gas on the fire. The reason I now will pick Ford over Chevy has little to do with mileage, towing, torque, HP, yada yada yada. I dropped GM when they became O'Bama motors. Nuff said about that. Don't want to get this thread deleted or moved. It's been pretty interesting.

Well anyway, picked up my new F-150 Ecoboost 2WD !ghast! today. It appears some of you think it will be totally useless since it is not 4WD. We don't get much snow here in my neck of the woods. I have never owned a 4WD and have never thought I needed one.

So I chose the Ecoboost. Time will tell whether or not I think I made a good decision. So far so good on my 20 mile trip home from the dealer, LOL.

In the NE you pretty much can't sell a 2WD truck, and it's even worse if you go and try to sell it used.

So you think everyone on the country needs one...... confused???? Fortunately I have no plans on moving to that part of the country. I'll be in south Carolina in 7 years when I sell mine. Enjoy your 4wd and bad weather.

Congratulations on your new Ford. What was your decision process over the V8? Pictures and packages?
