Eco Boost vs V8

. Howie Long is laughing all the way to the bank since he got paid off his Ford bashing "Man Step" commercials.

I never understood why a step was needed to get in the bed of a pickup, I thought that is what the rear tire was for. They put one on each side to make it real convenient.

Best 1/2 ton truck built from 04 till the Eco Boost.

About to be the best again late summer with the 5.0L Cummins

Chris

Oh boy, and to keep the fires burning ... the Tundra blows the other 1/2 tons out of the water, including the Titan. As a tow vehicle especially.

My F250 is definitely a heavier duty truck, but my Tundra was one heck of a half ton.

It's nothing to see all brands with 250,000 miles and still going strong. It is what it is. The 5.3 finally has the power the others did 10 years ago. It's the GM way, the safe approach. They sit back and watch what works and what doesn't then follow the pack. I get a kick out of the new GM cargo system. Soft drop tailgate, my 05 F150 had that as does my buddies 04 Titan and my 08. Cargo tie downs that are moveable. Nissan and Toyota have had that for more than 10 years. And the best of all is the step into the bed. Howie Long is laughing all the way to the bank since he got paid off his Ford bashing "Man Step" commercials. I will give them credit though, the step in the bumper is more user friendly. By the way the 6.0 is a good GM truck engine. A little thirsty but a lot of bang for the buck. Chris

Not a huge fan of the 6.0. It's a solid motor but does lack MPG's. I like the 6.2L much better. You are the only person I know that praises the Titian so much. You've had it quite a while so it must serve your needs well. Funny thing is when I go to the monthly sales meetings, the Nissan Titan is NEVER mentioned. It's not even a threat to GM truck sales. I don't know anybody that owns one to tell the truth. I'm not bashing. The #'s speak for themselves. Ford (as always) is GM's biggest competitor in the truck segment. Toyota and Ram are brought up also. GM has used BUMPER steps for many years on the Avalanche. Bled into the trucks this year. Ford uses a pull out BAR off the lift gate. That requires a free hand to pull out. The GM's bumper step does not. We can all talk HP, torque, and tow ratings all day long. The bottom line is we buy what we like and looks play a big part in the buying decisions we make. If taking the "safe approach" means sticking to internal cam V-8's vs OHC's and turbos on their trucks, I'm fine with that. I don't believe GM set back and watched what the competition did when building the C-5, C-6, and the new C-7 Corvette. It has acquired "super car" status and has stood alone for decades as the "All American sports car".

I actually like the built-in bumper step that GM added. It's funny, people will balk at it now, but eventually, most trucks will have one and everyone will balk at the truck that DOESN'T! I like the Ford tailgate step too. If I come across a nicely priced bumper for my F250 that has the step, I would have a hard time passing it up.

I hear ya. The current pickups are so tall that after the 20th time I have to get in the bed of my 150 I really appreciate the step. Removed the pole though. I rather have the bed be flat.

They pretty much need steps to allow you to wash the top of the cab, too. On our 1996 Tacoma, I could wash the cab top without needing to step onto anything. Same for the Ranger and Dodge Rampage. Can't on this 2005 Tacoma.

It's needed on these new trucks. My Titan came factory wit 33's and my F350 came with 35 's. I'm 6' and they are both tall.

I wish my trucks had them.

I would rate the Tundra as #2 behind the Eco Boost today. 6 years ago it was the Titan before Toyota put the 5.7 in the Tundra. The previous trucks were nice but anemic in the toying dept.

What's the best today will not be in two years. It's vert competitive.
