I know living in the country has pros and cons. One of the cons is living on a dirt road. We dust the house and a couple of days later it is the same. We run the A/C a lot with the windows closed. I have had the ducts checked and they are clean. Our furnace pulls outside air in. The house is 200 feet from the road.

Does anyone have any ideas? I have thought about a hydrostatic air cleaner on the furnace. I change the quality filter I install every two months. Help!

Does the township dustoil, and chip in front of your house?
If not call and ask them to,it would cut down on a lot of the dust!

We also live on a dirt road that they are currently preparing for paving next year, so I can relate to your dust problem. Usually they would have brined it several times during the summer months, but with all the road construction currently going on it has been a dust bowl this year. My siding has taken on a different color, I could grow a garden in the base of my windows, and walking down my full length porch is comparible to walking out in the road. The only saving grace is that we live on the west side of the road and the prevailing winds are on our side. It will be paved next year, then the traffic will pick up, but I won't be able to hear it with the smooth road. It will definetly add value to the homestead.

The house is about 100' from the road. With the county trucks hauling soil in and out, I'm convinced the house has settled about a foot /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif as you can feel every washboard they hit.

I have lived on a dirt road too. dust everywhere.
The only other thing I can think of is a long term idea.. a thick barrier of trees (mostly conifers) will help filter the dirt a bit.

Think of it this way... if you lived right on an expressway or interstate, you wouldn't have a dust problem.
I'll take dust any day!

Happy dusting!
