what did we do to our bodies when we drank out of the hose when we were young????

How is drinking water from a water hose ever going to hurt you ??? It would be just as good as water going though any other water line IE: The water line supplying the hose.

Hi
I think I will take my chances with the pure water and get my minerals from other sources.

The garden hose sits there with the end open to air, bugs, dirt, and bacteria for sometimes great lengths of time. Water gets stagnant, stuff grows in it, spiders crawl in, slugs give birth. I don't think anyone wants to take a sip of the first bit of warm water in the hose, it is after the hose runs for awhile to blow out the stagnant crud that it is good. The waterline supplying the hose is pressurized and sealed from the outside, no slug babies.

Yes, I drink bottled water. First I put the bottle under the faucet and fill it, then I put it in the cooler with ice. You get the picture. Bottled water is OK in most cases, but the water out of the tap is fine with me.

I am kinda in agreement with the rest, the convience. If I am out and need some, I will buy it. But most usually just save and clean the bottles with well water. I know first hand about the bacteria, that can be on the bottle if not washed properly. My Dad and I passed a nasty flu bug back and forth one winter until I realized that we were passing it back and forth thru our water bottles, that I thought I was cleaning and refilling. But, I had left the plastic ring that is still on the bottle after you break the seal on it and wasn't getting them thoroughly clean. After I removed them we both got well. So my suggestion would be; if you do save and clean. At least remove the plastic seal ring.

Interesting article which bears out what I've always suspected.

We have three wells on the farm but the water is sulfurous, good only for irrigation. We have mains water to the houses from a nearby lake/water reservoir which tastes good and sweet and is fine for me although my partner prefers bottled water for reasons which have always escaped me.

Good article. I will drink bottled water if it is all that is around. But I ususally drink MT Dew, Milk, coffee, and tap water.

Funny that people will whine over $3.00 gas but buy $5.00 water when you can get it for a penny a gal or so from the tap.

A resturant in town was recently shut down for health violations. One of the things cited was using plastic bowls for their salads. Plastic is not able to be sanitized from the heat in commercial dishwashers, so it's a health violation to re-use plastic when serving food.

I re-use water bottles, gatoraid bottles and plastic jugs for water for several days, but after that I get nervous that I'm pushing the bacteria envelope and through them away.

I also have a plasitc Coleman water jug that goes in the dishwasher every week or so. Mostly when it gets so dusty that I can taste the mud when drinking from it. Not a very good idea, but it's what I've always done.

Also, some garden hoses are made from recycled rubber that may have higher than normal concentrations of lead. These are usually accompanied by packaging that states "not for use with potable water" or some equivalent.
However, I'm occasionally just as guilty as anyone about drinking from a hose. I don't remember if mine are supposed to be acceptable for drinking water or not either. I figure if I don't do it very often and allow the water to flush the hose first, it shouldn't hurt me too much.

I don't drink anything, either water or a beverage, that is sold in a plastic bottle. I can always taste the plastic. Although the FDA doesn't have a problem with the plasticizer that leaches into the contents, I have to wonder if long term, someone is going to find out it's a problem in the human body.

I always turned the water on and let the hose run until cool water is coming through the hose...have you ever drank water from a spring ??? Lots of little bugs etc in the water. You would be suprised what finds its way into your water, especially city water. Drinking a little water from the hose never hurt anyone..you ever wonder what goes on in some of these resteraunts etc..with your food ?

If after washing and rinsing them there is still a danger, guess I'll have to assume a certain amount of immunity. Probably not as dangerous as working with the livestock, using a chainsaw, splitting wood, swimming in the pond or being kissed by one of my five dogs. /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Unless I use a plastic bottle, the cupholder on my tractor just doesn't hold enough water to last me long. Plus it's difficult to stick my lips out far enough to drain the cupholder!

nothing new. Bottled water is just filtered city water...if you are lucky.
