distributor woes

installed new aftermarket distributor on 55 850 ford.won't start.

6 volt or 12 volt??

Do you need a new rotor?

is the cap tight to the base?

Were the wire ends pushed all the way in to create contact?


Healthy spark?

good coil

Battery up to snuff?

Is your timing right? Rotating the distributor changes timing of spark.

You probably installed it incorrectly.

The big question not answered, why did you replace the distributor? Did someone tell you it was bad? Now to the serious stuff, did you note the position of the rotor button before removing? Could the coil be bad? Have you tried rotating the distributor back and forth as the engine is being cranked?
