I think the main thing I need to do is delete the DPF and EGR. Getting the regens gone from my lack of driving at highway speeds for so long or not dogging the crap out of it every time get in it.I don't see how making someone drive so fast so far to clean the DPF is better than just using the truck around ranch and not really seeing the highway but just when need too...

I don't think you can delete with out tuning. It will look like Christmas on your dash and go into limp mode.

Had good luck with a DP Tuner in a 7.3 PSD.

I have a Smarty Jr. on my 2006 Cummins. My truck seems to like it. :)
Kitty cat ran away and I had a Banks muffler installed in place of the factory muffler.
That made it a little loud for my liking, but then I installed an S&B cold air intake and it must have balanced out the flow because the drone's gone now.
There could be truth to that, or it could be all in my head.

Alright so my choices are the EFI LIVE or H&S Mini Max to do full deletes. $2,019 and add $750 for the other, installed. Just won't to do the best one for my truck and not worry with trying to save a few hundred and regret later.

I've had my 2004 Cummins for 3 or 4 years now, big there is a big difference between yours and mine. I have no real world experience with it but from following the Cummins boards it seems EFI Live is all the rage. It's really just a series of tunes that can be done in a custom manner for your truck. They usually have a 4 or 5 position switch with tunes for each position such as tow, performance, fuel mileage etc.

With deletes it can get pretty advanced. For example I think your truck has three injection events, they can tune it to run correct on one injection event.

As far as deletes, your warranty is pretty much gone if you do, but at your mileage, that may not be an issue. I also know it's getting harder to do, Edge got fined heavily. I do know they deletes eliminate a lot of the problems and make the trucks more reliable.

One of the weak points of the 5.9 common rail Cummins is the injectors. They can ruin the engine if they go bad and over fuel. The 6.7 has the reputation as having better injectors. With deletes, you will have the best of both worlds. You will have the power and torque of the larger displacement 6.7, but the lack of emission problems that the 5.9 enjoys. Good luck.

Jim,
I run a Smarty Jr. in my 2003 Dodge/Cummins Ram 3500. I keep it in performance tune at 100 hp. I can squeeze 2 mpg more out of it..............if I keep my foot out of it. I love it and suppose to change it to 50 hp tow mode for towing, but I don't................and just keep my foot out of it. Manually changing tunes is a pain.
hugs, Brandi

I would go with either EFI or a smarty. I've been running a smarty on my 07 but it is a pre emissions truck so it doesn't really apply. My dad has an 08, not deleted, and has had a smarty on it since 10,000 or less miles and he has about 85,000 on it now. I haven't researched it too much but EFI seems like the best way to go as you can do the delete and have custom tunes for exactly what you want. Are you having issues or just want to get rid of the emissions equipment?

DPF issues it wouldn't regen I guess and the filter says at 80% had the horrible smell for like 3days even it just setting there. Anyways been driving it more to try and get it clean but I am only getting 10.8mpg. I could go get it cleaned and be back doing it again, when? Or I just go ahead get rid of the none sense, increase my mpg and pull better. I looked into Smarty at first but they can't do the deletes.

When I bought my 2004 K1500 Reg Cab I had a shop use EFILive and I drove while he created a custom program. It took about 30 minutes and consisted of driving at several constant speeds, full throttle acceleration from a full stop and full throttle acceleration several different speeds. If I want to go back to the factory tune, I press the Tow button at the end of the shift lever. As I recall, I paid $400.

Click Here for the people I used (when they were located on the East Coast)
