At least he owned up to it. I think most would have not said anything, depending on how far your front gate is from your house.

If that's what he calls a crack, hate to see something he actually broke. At least he fessed up, maybe you can get his company to help pay for repair. At least cost of new lumber.

Its far enough that you can not see it from the house ... he was honorable.

Well I asked for that info and maybe he was pulling my leg ... he said yes go ahead and call them, it will be taken out of my check so much a week. I just told him stuff happens and we won't worry about it.

:D Sounds like it's not the first post he cracked... since he knows the routine.

I can see that happening. Funiture company doesn't insurance or doesn't want to use it to keep rates from going up so they hold their minimum wage help acountable. I'd let him off the hook too since he told you about it, that is providing he bolted the bed together solid so it doesn't collapse when you are "breaking it in":laughing:

Just think the insurance company will sue you for building an obstruction in the drive way:laughing:

Have him come out and help you fix it, and you wont tell his boss...:D:D:D

Trucking companies usually have a deductible on their liability policies unlike with personal auto policies.

The trucking co would pay the deductible amount before their insurance kicks in.

If the claim s below a certain amount the trucking o may even handle the entire claim and just bill the insurance carrier for their amount.

That's exactly what I would have done. If someone owns up to thier mistake, take responsibility, helps in labor getting things fixed/ make right then I won't make a phone call to a ... company/insurance/cops/etc... you pick :D.

I think people REALLY do deserve a second chance when they own up to it in this litigious society just like the delivery guy;).

I would call that a good idea! It looks like a repair job where an extra set of hands would help.

I was glad he took the responsibility and told me about it and I agree people do deserve a break ... I would have liked the extra hand BUT the truck was out ot Oklahoma City ... 2.5 hrs away. I just couldn't see asking him to come back that far.

If you hadn't been so hard on the old bed, none of this would have happened!

In this day and age, the delivery man did the unthinkable-he owned up to his mistake. Then, you did something almost as unimaginable-you gave him a break. Yes, there are still good people in this world.

A few years back, I had gravel brought in by a guy I'd been referred to. He and I hit it off immediately. I knew that he and his family had been very successful farmers, but got caught in the ag downturn in the early 80's and lost it all. We frequently talked about a number of subjects.

One time I had him bring a load of gravel for my barn lot. I had him
dump the leftover rock next to the barn. In the process of raising the bed, he was too close and one of the hinges put a slice in the wall of the barn-maybe an 1.5" wide and 8-10" long-no big deal. Well, it was a big to him-John had been delivering gravel for over 20 years, and had apparently never had anything like this happen. He was beside himself-he was really upset and wanted me to call his insurance agent to turn in the claim to get it fixed. I finally got him convinced that it was no big deal, and that under no circumstances should he turn in a claim. I told him I'd fix it with a little paint, which is exactly what I did. I told him to just pay it forward.....

John never forgot it, and later did some tractor work for me and wouldn't take anything in the way of payment. So in a way, my own good deed got paid forward if only to me, but I'd be willing to bet it got paid forward to many others ad well.

Sadly, we lost John a while back-I really miss him. But every time I see that slice in the barn, I feel good about how I handled a minor incident of life, and that I had the good fortune to know a great guy.

Many years ago I did about the same thing pulling a drill rig around a tight corner. I told the farmer that I pay for any damages. He said he had hit it with his hay wagon also and if I would help we could pull the ---- post out and be rid of it, so we did.
By the way I used to work out of Enid for the George E. Failing co.

Not bragging ... not complaining ... just taking it in stride.
