CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

Hey folks...just talked to Tractor Supply in CT. They were pretty helpful over the phone, gave me some information, but could'nt fill in all the blanks.....so I turn to you.

I'm looking for a 3-pt pallet mover. TSC says they have a KK carry-all ( angle - iron style ) with a capacity of 1000 #. They also have what they called a 'bale carrier' that they said has wider fork spacing and a 2000 # capacity. They couln't give me a mfr name or model though. He said it was only listed as a bale carrier. Its quite a bit more $$ though...$ 259.00 as opposed to $ 90 for the KK carry-all.

Anyone have any idea what they may be talking about ?
I searched KK's site, but saw nothing. Also tried a general web search but got mostly bale spears and trailers.

I'd like to have some idea of what it is before I load up and travel to CT. Its not a cross country trek, just far enough for me to think before going /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

Thanks in advance.

Not familiar with either product, but make sure you measure the pallets first and get forks that are spaced close enough together to go between the pallet skids. Some forks are too wide for pallets. btdt.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

Billbill1 posted a good picture of the Kk carryall in This thread.

The bale carrier is more heavy duty and physically larger. TSC does have a web site (www.tractorsupplyco.com) but they do not show the bale carrier. Their site is not as good as it used to be...

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

The carry-all might be rated to PICK UP 1000lbs, but I wouldn't go bouncing along with 1000lbs on them. They're a bit on the light side for that. I've ruined one with no more than 500lbs of rock on it. The "pallet forks" are a bit stronger. I'd be carefull about taking them to their rated limit.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I'm not sure that the forks on a bale carrier are what you want. They are usually round, not flat like the carry-all. If I were you, I would talk with a local welding shop about making one for you. I don't know about your TC35, but my Cub has a 3pt lift capacity of 3410 pounds and I would not want to be limited to a 1000 capacity. A local welding shop can easily make one with a capacity nearer your tractor. You should have a farmer near you. Chat with them and they can point you to a local welder.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I believe the bale carrier, which is nice and heavy-duty has too wide a spread to fit most pallets. I may be wrong, but it's what I seem to remember when I saw one a while back. John

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I suspect KiotiJohn may be right about the spacing on that platform bale carrier, but you could probably contact someone at TSC who knows. I moved a lot of hay with a similar platform bale carrier, and it was also used as a pallet mover, but the one I used was home made by the farmer who owned it, so the spacing was OK.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

Our TSC store has a carry all.. ( 1000 #? maybee on a good day and pretty 'small' pounds. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif )

They have a pallet carrier.. bigger... heavier...

And they have a 3pt bale spear.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I have a 3PH bale carrier. Mine is made with round tubing instead of the rectangular tubing. It's also so old I don't know who made it, maybe Howse. Anyhow, I broke it trying to lift some trash in a 30 yard roll-off dumpster. I got one of the tines under the dumpster instead of under the load inside the dumpster. OOPS! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif Anyhow, I recently welded it and used it to move a couple of bales for my girlfriend. Then she got some delivered on a big trailer. When I went to lift one off, I got one of the tines under a nylon tie-down strap. Can you guess what happened next? /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif Yep! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif I have another welding job to do. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif Maybe the next time I get it fixed, I'll just sell it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've had one for a number of years made by ? and I wouldn't want to carry much weight on it. The bottom angle iron are too short to handle a pallet. They are also too weak and bend easily as there is no corner bracing where they are attached to the upright pieces. Overall, I think they are ok if you add a platform to carry a couple 100" bags or mid size tool box. Perhaps mount a generator or something. If you are interested in a slightly bent one I will sell you mine cheap. (I'm in Worcester)

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

Hey Andy...no offense, but I'll pass on the offer /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif.

TSC up here ( Enfield CT ) doesn't seem to stock the KK pallet mover only the carry-all. They can get the pallet mover, but may take several weeks....

I'm not needing heavy duty, just something that can lift some insulation, 2 X 4s and maybe serve as a lift platform when loaded in my bucket ( with all OSHA required fall arrest equipment /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif ). After the addition on the house, it will mostly be used for humping a trash can around and maybe moving some brush. Can't ever see unloading a pallet.

I guess a road trip is in order.

Thanks all for the advice.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I went up to the "new" (last Nov.) TSC in Barkhempsted Ct. on Sat. and picked up the only carry all they had left. They were ordering more but sales had no firm idea when they would be in. The stock answer is two to four weeks. Otherwise, a fair amount of KK stuff outside, no bale spears though. 8-8 M-S, 8-5 S. Lots of Western riding equip. for the horsey set, no Dresage in evidence up there. Plenty of miss. tractor parts, plus the usual farm country supplys. Nothing like that in my neck of the woods. Joe

Thos are great uses for the tsc carry-all.

I currently have one, and have used it to move 500# of feed bags, carry trash.. etc. Works great for it.

Currently, I bolted a couple planks to it, and have it slid into a pallet and then bolted my pto gen thru the pallet, and palnks, and carrier.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

The bake carrier may work for you but I think it would be hard to load and unload a pallet.
Also make sure that the carrier is the right size for your tractor.

I bought one from the local COOP to enable me to haul two round bales at a time. One up front on my loader and a second out back on the carrier.
The problem with the carrier they sold me is that it was too small for my tractor and and I could never get the angle on the carrier right to slide under a bale and pick it up properly. If the angle was right for sliding under the bale, then the bale would fall off. If the bale would not fall off then you could not pick up a bale without tearing it up.

So I returned it and just got a rear spike. Simple and effective for bales. Of course no good for a pallet.

The moral of the story is make sure you can angle the forks down flat enough to easily slide under a pallet.

Re: CT Tractor Supply - \" Bale Carrier \"

I've been moving round bales with my Woods pallet forks on the front of the TN. Works fine unless they are in a pile. You can still pick them up ok but it is very difficult to grab a top one without the one belows twine being caught on the forks and ripped off. Makes for some pretty loose bales. I now use the forks angled down to pull the bales from the pile and then pick them up. As soon as I can I will be getting a Quick Attach bale spear, probably from Markam Welding (or if I get real ambitious I'll weld my own). The guy who brings my bales has one he mounts on my tractor he made from a truck axle that he ground sharp.
