Massey 285
I have a Massey 285 without a ROPS. I've seen several discussions on here about the pros and cons of making one and it seems to me I will go the route of buying factory built. Does anyone here know the approximate cost of them for my size of tractor? Are there aftermarket companies that make them for all different kinds of tractors or will I have to go through a Massey dealer?

I have very limited hours on a tractor (I've been labeled a cubicle cowboy by friends) so I'm a bit intimidated by a tractor and would like to have all the safety features in place on my older tractor.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

I had a quote of about $450 for a much smaller 1600 pound tractor.

I would think it would be more for your larger tractor.

I would think it would also vary by how common that model tractor is for the ROPS supplier.

When I considered having a welder neighbor make a ROPS for my tractor someone sent me an article with a homemade one that failed and a 14 year old boy was killed. It seems there is more to the design than just making a super strong structure, they need to flex in the right places too. This one didn't flex, tore the rear axle off the tractor and then of course a tragic outcome. After reading that I decided I would buy an OSHA approved one when it becomes available, which for my tractor will be in the next month or two.
