Tractor chains for snow and ice advice

Oh, and I failed to mention that I have done it at -20f because when it’s cold, people need it the most.
Damn... I hope for your sake, that doesn't come with wind!

I've gone skiing in -40F a few times, and -20F many times, but we never see those sorts of temperatures here near Philly. Last year, we had a long stretch of mornings close to -10F, and that's the coldest I can remember in more than 50 years living here.

I actually don't mind -10F or -20F, as long as the wind is calm. I'll take -10F and calm over +10F with wind!

I think all the windchill charts are off.

Like you even single digits does not feel that cold to me but 20 degrees with 10-20mph wind feels like way below zero to me.

Luckily we don’t get much wind where I am at. However, that translates into cold air settling in which is why my area can get to -40 at times. A little breeze, and we can practically watch the thermometer rise. 10 - 15 minutes away and the temps could be 15 degrees higher…all because they are a little higher up. No we don’t live in the mountains. Mostly flat around here.

I don’t envy Montana or the Dakotas🥶

I would say it also depends on your machine and how good it has traction without the chains. My l2800 I put on the loader/grader chains and it works great. Would not spend money to get a different style. It has no loader on it and narrow front tires. My massey ferguson 20c has a loader, originally I had the loader/grader chains on it. They worked ok. 2 years ago I bought ladder style chains similar to the aquiline you have pictured from tirechainsonline. The massey is much better in the snow and ice with them. Both machines are 2 wheel drive.
