1.38 billion people and only 3333 officially dead.

I think I had 3333 as a lucky number in a fortune cookie once.

It's that their data fields won't show zeros. Just pencil in a couple wherever they suit ya. :)

It would be interesting to see (once this is all said and done) a randomized trial to see how many people had it and didn't realize it.

I think it would be interesting to take a few small towns that have some cases and test everyone.

The store seemed a bit empty, and uncluttered. The center isles weren't packed with skids like they usually were. Everyone, both employees and customers, were very polite and keeping their distance from everyone else. Kinda nice, actually.

I had to pick up a prescription for my wife this morning. Traffic was very light. That was nice too.
I think with so many people being on edge the light traffic helps keep road rage down.

Possible sabotage or gross ineptness??

Coronavirus patients spend night on Navy hospital ship meant for non-infected New York patients

How do 5 out of 27 patients transferred to this relief ship test positive for the virus...when its purpose was to take only non-Covid patients to help out NYC?

And where are the other NYC patients that should be on the ship?

1000+ bed relief ship basically sitting unused.

They were screened negative before being transferred but then a day or two later had positive tests. Not unexpected when there are large numbers of people in the community incubating the virus.

It was my naive expectation that the ship would be used to bed existing non COVID19 patients that required prolonged bed care? Patients that have been in hospital control long enough to ensure they are not positive?

"Estimates" from the intelligence community run from 30,000 to 300,000 dead. Some say even higher. No one knows.

Just saw this on the Captain of the carrier:

"Capt. Brett E. Crozier, the Navy captain who was removed from command of the coronavirus-stricken aircraft carrier U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt, has tested positive for Covid-19, according to two Naval Academy classmates of Crozier’s who are close to him and his family."

I think I commented in an earlier post that there are reports that this virus has neurological effects. That may have affected his reasoning. In any case, the Captain would have needed to be replaced but not disgraced. I am surprised the Medical Officer on the ship had not tested the Captain if that is the case.

Maybe Island Tractor can share his opinion on the neurological aspect?

The risk of neurological involvement seems to be very very small and probably associated with the more severe cases where lack of oxygen could affect the brain. Not the case with a Naval officer who walks off his ship. The other type of neurological disease suspected is related to the immune response and comes later after initial recovery. That is also very rare.

There is a lot more to the carrier captain's story than is out there...he was fully aware what happens when commanders do what he did...

That ship was incapacitated the very second the first case was diagnosed as positive...

The public may never know the full story...!

If you know the "story" lets hear it.

I see he's local and admired. "... a legacy that would make any commander proud: He sacrificed himself to save his crew." Santa Rosa PD

Regarding the Navy commander... excerpt from link below.

Navy Captain Brett Crozier was relieved of his command aboard the U.S.S. Theodore Roosevelt after the captain used incredibly poor judgement, sent a “non-secure” email to media, compromised his position, violated the chain-of-command (stunningly with a fleet commander on board his ship), put his crew at risk, and incited panic amid the families of the crew members.
