Went to a couple stores yesterday shopping for my wife's parents. Dad's got dementia and mom is finally understanding we shouldn't be going to the store so often. So, when we get a grocery list from her, and it says 1 dozen eggs, I get her 2 dozen. 1 gallon of milk, I get her 2. She can freeze one. 5 bags of cookies (dad likes cookies!), I got her 10. Just doubling everything that won't spoil so I don't have to go to the store as often.

Noticed Walmart had the doors on the home side closed and only the grocery side doors open. They had a line of carts between the in and out doors that came out to the edge of the sidewalk, then turned towards the side of the store and extended all the way to the shopping cart storage doors. So to get into the store, you had to walk 100' to the right, then come back down inside the line off carts back to the IN door. When entering, they had one person on the IN side checking off a clipboard. On the OUT side they had another person checking off a clip board. I asked what they were doing? Keeping track of how many people are in the store. Interesting.

The store seemed a bit empty, and uncluttered. The center isles weren't packed with skids like they usually were. Everyone, both employees and customers, were very polite and keeping their distance from everyone else. Kinda nice, actually.
Walmart and target are doing that here. Got the front roped off. Cop hanging out directing folks. They are limiting the number of people in the stores and really limiting the number of kids. Speakers are broadcasting a public service announcement about social distancing, their updated store hours and why they are limiting the amount of kids and people.

I had to pick up a prescription for my wife this morning. Traffic was very light. That was nice too.
I think with so many people being on edge the light traffic helps keep road rage down.

My commute into the city this morning. I counted maybe 50 vehicles coming out of the city during a 5 mile stretch. Saw 3 vehicles way off into the distance in front of me. And had two vehicle way behind me. Normally it's 50 cars around me on a sunday morning.

I woke up about noon very hot and sweating. I got up about 7:30 am and took my magnesium and a hand full of Wobenzym N (10-12 tablets) since I try not to eat for 2 hours before and after I take it. I had layed down on a day bed in the sun room to read some health articles out of the new Life Extension magazine. A few hours later after drifting in an out of sleep I realized the light cover was not enough so I clicked on the crystal heating pad and later I remember thinking this so nice a little later.

Well when I first realized how hot and sweaty I was I panicked due to the news of the last month. As I gathered my wits about me I checked and the pad was set on 9 instead 3 like it was the last time I had used it thanks to my daughter who likes to put it on max when she is cold and uses the day bed to get warmed up.

Now that I have eaten breakfast and about ready to take the wife to work I am fine. My daughter thought my panic attack was funny for some reason.

The virus is closing in on our area. Most of the sounding counties have gone from Zero to 3-6 positive cases. When I picked up the wife at 11:30 pm last night there was no line at McDonald's when I got a cup of coffee and the roads were more or less empty. The weather is nice and farmers are moving about. Our little county road is quite as the tobacco crews from Mexico have been no shows so far. I see KY Lake boat docks are full of trucks and empty boat trailers.

Thankful the freezing weather is behind us but with the air full of pollen it is going to be hard not to have some sinus issues out mowing and stuff. Having been off the computer for a while has been helpful for the mind. :) Waiting for the other shoe to drop is no fun. If it was not for the wife working at the hospital I think dealing with the virus would be doable but they are short as it is.

Be as safe as possible.

I agree, most of us here are old enough to realize that this was a decision made by political bureaucrats who are the ones who have actually run our country for years. These people are appointed and go from one administration to the next mainly because they are the ones who actually know how to get things done and through the years have gathered enough dirt on the long time powerful politicians to be secure in their positions.

My family is all long time Navy veterans and one of my best friends, who is much younger than me, and active duty as a Navy Chief all agree that this man had the guts to stand up and back his men. He knew full well that he personally would pay the price but put his crew before himself. He should be held up as an example of a real leader for all aspiring officers. There are way too many butt kissers in the services who rise through the ranks by knowing how to play the political game and sell out their troops in their personal interest.
One interesting thing, another board I am on there has someone who knows people who are stationed at Guam.

They are very unhappy with the Captian and the news stories that have come out because they have been working their butts off for the past few weeks to get ready for the carrier to show up.

Despite what the Captain said to the media (and probably to his men), they have been getting ready for the TR to arrive at Guam even if the Captain did not know of the details or did not like their preparations.

I heard something different from someone who knows somebody that I think doesn't know anything. :confused2:

Pray you Aussie痴 are not hit hard....your country has suffered enough recently.

Ta Mate, we're doing OK... the country's death toll is at 37 right now. FORTRESS TASMANIA is holding strong but, as I've said before (probably in a now 'locked' thread) we've got a moat, being an Island State. And Australia itself has a continental moat too, it's the individual mainland States/Territories that have enacted their own boarder, non-essential travel, restrictions.

She'll be right.

Demographics in NYC

Quote from "somewhere".

It will surprise no one that the most recent demographic data released by New York City’s Department of Health reveals that the City’s elderly — those over 65 years old — make up 70 percent of all deaths from coronavirus in NYC facilities. As of Friday, April 3, there were 1,584 coronavirus deaths in New York City. Males continue to dominate the demographics of death with 985 deaths for males vs. 597 deaths for females.

Queens continues to lead the death rates in the five boroughs with 499 deaths out of the total of 1,584 coming from Queens. But the Bronx is a close second with 438 deaths. Brooklyn reports 388 deaths with Manhattan reporting 179 deaths, and Staten Island with 79. Overwhelmingly, the deaths are occurring among those with underlying medical conditions including diabetes, lung disease, cancer, immunodeficiency, heart disease, hypertension, asthma, kidney disease and GI/liver disease.

This is the real story of coronavirus. Those without underlying conditions—including elderly people without underlying conditions—are highly unlikely to die. As the April 3 data demonstrates, only one NYC person without underlying conditions age 65 to 74 died of the virus, and only 3 individuals age 75 and over died of coronavirus. That’s a total of 4 deaths of elderly people without underlying conditions out of 1,584 deaths from coronavirus.
