I agree, I would not try any dozer work myself.

You could easily do it yourself. A dozer is easier to master than a backhoe. You could have a rental unit dropped off at your building site and have at it. Give yourself credit, you seem like a capable guy. :)

If you could tell a capable guy, in one sentence some tip that would assure their success as a dozer operator, what would it be?

Stop being apprehensive, rent the freakin' thing and get the job done. :D

I was hoping for something practical like make sure the dozer is level at cut height before you roll.

You really think so? For me the backhoe was easier. Grading w/ a dozer is the hardest thing I do.

Heck, sounds like the practical advice I get from my mentors as well :D

Or, as Doug often tell's me,,,

Al, you are making it too complicated, just do it.

That's what I mean. Just rent the thing and go to town. It'll be one more thing you'll be able to do and you'll probably save some $$ along the way.

No, a dozer is easier than trying grading with an excavator with front a blade.

Yes, of course, as it's what it's made to do. My point was that it's been harder to master the dozer for grading.

Grading is real tough, even with a dozer. A 6 way blade is the nuts though. My wife is getting pretty good. I will have to post some photo's of her work.

I do ok with a loader or excavator.
