I agree, I would not try any dozer work myself.

You could easily do it yourself. A dozer is easier to master than a backhoe. You could have a rental unit dropped off at your building site and have at it. Give yourself credit, you seem like a capable guy.

I was hoping for something practical like make sure the dozer is level at cut height before you roll.

You really think so? For me the backhoe was easier. Grading w/ a dozer is the hardest thing I do.

That's what I mean. Just rent the thing and go to town. It'll be one more thing you'll be able to do and you'll probably save some $$ along the way.

Yes, of course, as it's what it's made to do. My point was that it's been harder to master the dozer for grading.

Grading is real tough, even with a dozer. A 6 way blade is the nuts though. My wife is getting pretty good. I will have to post some photo's of her work.

I do ok with a loader or excavator.
