Clearing Snow Off An Open Station

Durafit seat cover, KU05 SST. Perfect fit. Tight and stays in place. Original seat vinyl was starting to crack from being stored outside by previous owners. Specific to several models including TLB, M59. Got it from thru Amazon. Durafit website has more information and contact help.
Thanks

I started with the tarp as a temporary with the idea of putting a lean-to off of the garage which would be wonderful but somehow I'm on my 3rd tarp..........

gg
I started my tractor shed 4 years ago but tried to do more than my ability. It's now a frame, I just need to enclose it and learn how to build a roof. I had lumber for a peaked roof but will probably cut out some longer rafters and just put a shed style roof on it.

Tarps don't seem to last very long, sunlight and wind destroys them.

Yeah, was gonna build a tractor/implement shed maybe 10-12 years ago, just never got that round tuit.
Now most of the materials I'd bought have been used for other projects.

Agree on tarps, maybe 2-3 years for a good one, cheapo HF ones you're lucky to get a season out of 'em.

When I tore down my barn in Dec 2019 I lost my tractor garage. I bought a Harbor Freight 17' car tent for the tractor. Worked great for 2 years until the new barn was finished. The tent has no rips and is entering its third New England winter. You can often get it for well under $200.
Didn't know HF sold them, but I've got a couple Shelterlogic ones. I'd recommend putting a sacrificial tarp over the tent while it's still in decent shape. Need to replace it every couple years, but it's a lot cheaper (and easier) than replacing the tent.
FWIW when my tractor had to live outside I covered the cockpit with a tarp. I also installed a lower radiator-hose heating element and set it on a timer so the block would be warm in the morning.
How well do those radiator hose heaters work? I've heard everything from "pretty good" to "don't bother". My Kioti can be a bit cold blooded.

I had one on my old L275... actually about 8 of them. They worked really well for a while, then quit. I mentioned that a while back and somebody told me that they need to be unplugged before starting the tractor. Considering how mean that thing started in cold weather I never even considered that, as it often took several tries to get it going. Actually it was after I killed the block heater in my 3301 the first time that I used it, that somebody told me what I was doing wrong.

Scary to think about it now but I once was out of town for several weeks during a cold spell and didn't have enough antifreeze; so left it plugged in for the entire time. One power outage and I would have been out an engine block.

Buddy uses an inline hose heater and leaves it on 24/24 during cold months.
That's going on 5 years now.

Your worst nightmare:
Having to replace a frost plug heater , outdoors in -20C cold!
---and it is hidden behind your oil filter!

First... Tractors are designed to be outside in ANY weather. Have been since they were invented.
Second... Tractors have been & still are stored outside in all kinds of weather every day/year.
Third... Tractors stored outside continue to work as designed every day/year even though they live outside.

I do sometimes put a cheap tarp on my tractors if I feel like it because I don't like cleaning them off.
ALL my tractors have spent YEARS outside unprotected without damage.
Tires with weather checking on them are not damaged beyond use as proven by some of mine that have been working weather checked for over THIRTY years. Run them till they go flat or split. (Had a 50+ year old one finally split once.)
Faded paint doesn't affect use.
Tractors are stored OUTSIDE UNCOVERED at the dealers before you buy them.

They aren’t stored outside at dealers for more than a season before they are sold. They don’t sit outside there for years. And UV light will make plastics and rubber parts brittle over time. Equipment definitely doesn’t age as well outside as stored under roof.

Heat rises so they must be below the block and above the bottom radiator port. Else you heat the radiator instead of the block. Some engine designs this is hard to do. Better success with block heater.

Agreed; block heaters are best, but the inline heaters are easiest to retro fit.

When I was serious into biking some of the hardcore winter riders would leave a 100 watt bulb under the oil pan of their MC all night (in the shed/garage) so it's start easier in the freezing AM.

You missed the thread below. That is what happens to a tractor stored outside. Storing a tractor outside will shorten it's life substantially. I took possession of my dad's 1962 Oliver when he died. He kept it inside and if he hadn't it would be junk now. It was cheaper to build a barn to store all of my equipment than to let them rust outside.
