Agree that the Walmart deal is very good and likely will not last, so I would get it soon.
I just went to Walmart dot com and a search for "Typhon excavator" yielded 30 hits, from $5K to $50K USD, with shipping in the US.

That is impressive, but listings state "no written warranty". But that site has its own protections for the purchase, I am sure. If someone uses Walmart to make their mini purchase, I hope they report here.

- Reinforced between the drive motors and to protect them from rocks - (XIX has enclosed motors)
Your protection looks good, Carl. More substantial than mine. Don't forget to protect the dozer blade cylinder, even if it is just a steel plate held on by a hose clamp.

I think the cushion valve on the house rotation motor was not too costly or difficult. Breaking the pinion gear or shaft would be a Bad Day.

Cool mods and useful. Yup Typhon got greedy. $15,998. No thanks.

Mods I did to my Terror 18
- 230 MM Turf tracks to replace the 180MM stock tracks ( the XIX comes with 230MM tracks)
- Reinforced the thumb with 1/4" steel braces - (XIX is a different design - may not need this)
- Added a Tach - XIX has a tach in the standard display
- Added an inline oil return filter - I think XIX has one in the tank
- Reinforced between the drive motors and to protect them from rocks - (XIX has enclosed motors)
- Moved/added an Aluminum foot control for the thumb - it was too close and not easy to operate

Then the things I wish I had, the relief valve and brake on slew motor, better hydraulics and pumps, more drive speed, but they cost too much and involve too much to change.
I hear you on upgrading hydraulics. No way we could get them at the price manufacturers do.

Too bad.
Machinery Asia still has them for $13299 on ebay.

I'm not sure I want to buy from Typhon. Their prices fluctuate like the tides. I will continue looking. I like the Shantui STE35 but I don't want to pay $26k. My wife tells me to go ahead and buy it, but I want to surprise her with a swim spa that will be around $20K. Another thing is, my flat bed trailer can only carry 5,000LBS. First world problems, I guess. 😬

Also agree on Shantui STE35 - that's a nice machine, good price point, Yanmar engine, smooth controls and is a real mini excavator. I think they private-label that model for Kobelco too. If your wife said go ahead - then do it - and get the swim spa too - you only go round one time!

Typhoon is a reseller and not the OEM, and that's part of the reason for price shifts as they move with the market, and I find on ebay they will offer a better deal than on the web site. Too, bad this has jaded your view, but that's the market.

I started looking at bigger machines. So far I like the AGT NT30, QNT45 (big engine cheap hydraulic pump), Rippa R350. I also like the MY50R but it has a 28HP gas V twin air cooled. Most that own it seem to really like it with the exception of the track tensioners being the weak point. Also, it requires flipping the colling fan as it fights the engine fan.

That unit seems to be only about 4000 pounds. Can't go by the name. I do think the large V-twin gas engines are good options, if well-matched to the hyd pumps. Some of the V-twins seem to be well over 800cc.

Typhoon direct has the Terror XIX as 13999.00 free shipping and one year warranty, lifetime US based support.

I’m actually looking at the XVII on sale for 10099.00 shipped.
It has the Kubota D902 diesel. Going to call them tomorrow to confirm if it has a swing boom. Looks like it does in the photos.

Was going to wait till spring but it’s 2500 off right now. We’ll see how the call turns out.

I think a bigger machine will serve me better. They are heavier, wider and more stable from my hilly property.

The ones you listed are not heavy the QNT45 is 1810KG or 4000 lbs. Can't see what the MY50 but suspect its in the 4-5000 lb max range too.

These are larger frame but similar gear pumps and the Shantui STE35 has a 67LPM rotary pump and is 6200 lbs and a solid machine but $26K - buy once cry once..

They are certainly heavier than most 2 tons which are usually 1.3 tons. That was what I was referring to. The Shantui certainly is nice but it is much more than my trailer can carry. I'm limited to 5,000, sadly.

Understand that now, but for hilling ground, the XIX and XVIII are 3400-3600 lbs or 1.8T and most of that weight is in the bottom side near the ground which is what you want in hilly environments.

When you add a cab, and increased height of the MY50 or QNT they have a higher center of gravity - something to think about - only being 500-600 lbs more in total weight.

Agreed, get what you think you should so you don’t have to buy twice .

I think I will be ok with the smaller Typhon. My first project will be to dig out a wider swath of this embankment where I’ve started a driveway on my land up north. I don’t mind if it takes longer with a smaller machine. I dug out this part with my T25 toothed bucket, but that wasn’t ideal. The embankment ranges 3 to 4 feet high and like 10 feet deep and all hard packed dirt over stacked rocks and roots. There are some very large trees on it as well. I tried to pick a spot that had smaller growth.

After that I’ll dig down and form the driveway with my box blade and use the mini ex to trench the sides a bit. Then there are rocks I want to dig out or bury in the field that I keep tuning my mowing blades with. There’s also a lot of cleanup in the woods of downed trees from a bad storm a few years ago. Just a few things on the list.

Nogal, besides the things Carl mentioned, I believe there is something else you should consider. The specs on the QNT45 I see online indicate it has a cab WITHOUT air conditioning. I think that would be a big mistake for any summertime use. It would be a greenhouse, even with the side window and door left open.
BTW, not sure where you are on the the amount you want to spend (or where you are located), but there is guy in Tyler Texas who has been selling Rippa R22 Pros for $20,150, which is as cheap as any place I have seen. No firsthand experience with the brand but they have good specs on paper.

TexTractor - that's a good machine for the price and perfect for NoGal size wise and price too.

Rippa has a good reputation for the most part people are happy with the machines - they are the OEM and build the machines and have a US presence so that's a plus.
