I'm in the market for a chain hoist. It will get limited use.
I found Grizzly G8704 Chain Hoist - 1 Ton for less than $50
It does not indicate the amount of pull required to lift the 1 ton.
Others I've found list about 77 lbs required to lift the load. But cost more than three time as much.
Please let me have your advice and experience with chain hoist.
Thanks a bunch, (this is not meant to be a chain letter):D

Thank you Gary. I did not notice the specs link. Now if I can get the material sizes needed for the frame I'll be ready to get started. Here is what I plan for my 16 foot tandem wheel flat bed trailer.
I'm thinking 3 in square for the posts and 4x6 for the I beam.

I don't know if those sizes will support your planned load, but I'd certainly suggest some diagonal bracing in fore and aft as well as side to side loads. Hate to see it fall apart if you're on a slight side slope.

Good sized gusset plates might do the job. It would be difficult to brace the rear section with rods in tension and still move a load through.

I did the same thing for my shop as well. I did put the end braces on casters though so I could relocate wherever I wanted it. Works like a charm.

Thanks to all for suggestions, here is follow-up. The project is finished, except for making a minor adjustment to the wench to crank the trolly back and forth.

Here's the finished project with the first rock ready to lower on to the bed.

Looks good as well as doing the job OK. Glad it all worked out for you. :D
