France smarter than us?

Not a chance:

- France sold us most of the US via the Louisiana purchase. Not smart.

- France was occupied during WWII.

- France speaks French.

Nuff said.

But they did save our bee-hinds in the Revolutionary War.

How many major nuclear additions or expansions have taken place in the US in the last 40 years? (Since Three Mile Island). Only one that I know of. Near Augusta GA by the Southern Co. It’s not so much NIMBY as the huge financial risk to build them. Cost overruns galore.

Amazes me that with the focus now being on greenhouse gasses, that nuclear plants arent being built dozens at a time.
They ARE the solution, along with clean burning natural gas, which we have an enormous amount of.

I stand corrected. Thanks. In 25 years or so there are two expanded facilities. Two additional reactors at Watts Bar (TVA) and two near Augusta. The Fukushima Japan disaster was a big setback for nuclear too. Solar and wind can’t do it all. SO dividends are a portion of my retirement income.

Natural gas emits carbon dioxide. Aren't we trying to eliminate that?
The point of this is that natural gas isn't the great solution some think it is.

It depends on how you classify carbon dioxide. Just because one former President says carbon dioxide emissions must be regulated doesn’t make it so.
Do you think natural gas must be eliminated along with coal and other FFs for us to have acceptable carbon dioxide levels?
Who knows how much is too much? You can post a scientific formula few can understand, but I don’t need to. What I do know is none of us would exist without fossil fuels. Maybe take some time to appreciate the life saving benefits they give. Maybe appreciate how many people are saved from certain death without fossil fuels to create electricity, cooling and heat, transportation, life saving drugs, jobs, plastics.
Some people never stop complaining about carbon emissions, no matter how much we reduce them. Yet they fly alone in jets and wouldn’t survive 2 days without them.

Funny.

Look at the revenues governments at many levels get from fuel taxes. It’s addictive to these folks.

Think about cigarettes and tobacco. How many people die in the USA from tobacco each year? About 500,000. Every year. Same as one year of COVID. Yet it’s still legal. Why? Look at the tobacco tax.

You might make note of proposals for a "milage tax" , They can't run a bloated central government without funding!

That is 8th grade science formulas... IIRC. It's been a while ...but I enjoyed 8th grade. Some of the girls were a lot of fun.

I've got a "dead" nuke plant less than 4 miles from my home.

It's not an issue, but the operators weaseled out of the decommissioning funding and put the expense on us tax payers. (the wonders of big business).

Now it's on site wet storage of the hot stuff. Looking hard at dry cask. either way, it's a ticking time bomb for the next 5000 years. Longer really. But that's a perspective number.

We need to adopt the "Star Wars" technology and lauch the hot waste to the sun where it will do some good.

I hear the wildlife is returning to Chernobyl. Of course, foxes, beavers and deer only live 10 years in the best of environments.
