Canada Geese

/ Canada Geese #51
I have not seen any yet. My waterfront has been the northern home of a few hundred that nest and raise their younguns here. The rest continue all the way up to Canada and merely stop by. Always interesting to watch the babies dive underwater to avoid the bald eagles talons.

Maybe I need a few eagles to rid my lake and yard of the poo machines also known as geese.

Resident geese or migratory? Mine are migratory and they head south every year as they should. I am on saltwater, so big processing plant for the waste.

Resident poo makers. It gets on the lawnmower tires, on your shoes, on the dog (now passed away), it is even on the streets in our neighborhood. I have dealt with beavers, coyotes, etc at our rural property and I have never encountered a creature as nasty as a goose.

Okay, I understand now. Ours fight for their lives and those that survive migrate away as nature intended. Big difference.

Maybe not nastier than a goose, but they call seagulls, "sh%t a quart's" for a good reason.

The funny part is we did not have resident geese until the last 10 or so years. Passing through and visiting temporarily is wonderful but like in-laws they need to leave before they create a mess.

My seagulls are not a problem. In may avatar they were on deck feeding on salmon scraps after California sea-loins were decimating returning Washington chum salmon. (Another story entirely). Now there is an animal I could see less of.

Park Ranger told me Canada geese with not migrate south if there is open water and ample food. That was in Chicago where they keep a few ponds open, full of flying sh*t machines. They destroy golf courses!
