BX seat safety switch?

Bill:

1. You still haven't replied about whether you want a horse or not?

2. I see that you have had your posts re-installed, but not your singature picture. I'd suggest a NEW picture, with you wearing that nice hat I sent you!!!

3. I still think (it could be dangerous) that maybe you should change your site name to "eraser"

4. I can't afford 2 Kubota's at the same time, besides Amy would make me sleep in the camper. Now I know for sure that steelworkers have all the money!!

Bill:

On the subject of this thread, Don't you think that the interlock switches were put there for a reason? If they weren't there, Kubota probably would not be in business as they would have been sued out of business by attorneys pursuing wrongful injury lawsiuts!!!

You know, "big brother" again!!!!

Daryl,

After serious consideration I have to decline the offer of the horse. We'll stick with our geese...much lower maintenance...more time to maintain the tractor... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yep, I think you hit the nail on the head. A seat switch is there not because it is needed, but because of fear of unjustified lawsuits. Why would I need that switch on a little Bx2200 used for mostly grass cutting, but not on my larger B2910 that is mainly be used with loader/backhoe/PTO equipment?

Come to think of it...wet slopes are a danger...if they put a moisture detector on a tractor you bought, that would not let you run it if the ground was wet, would you disable that? My guess is that you would and I would too.

Or how about a height sensor for the loader. we all know that a loader up in the air is a tipping hazard when moving. There should be a safety cut out that shuts down the tractor if the loader is above hood level, shouldn't there?

And a seat belt senson like in my ford van....seat belt not buckled...tractor should shut down if put into gear...

And the list goes on.

Hey Kubota! Need an advisor? Let me help add those safety interlocks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well here I am 10 days after the question was asked putting in my 2 cents worth!
I have a BX22 bought new last July. It has no safety switch related to the seat position. It has to be in neutral to start, nothing else. I can dismount with it in gear and with pto running and nothing shuts down.
I am training my sons to use the tractor and even though the extra safety features could be helpful, I don't want them to learn to depend on a safety switch anyway. I want them to know how to respect the tractor and all the damage it can do to a person or property - learn how to use it properly. I guess it is sort of like my Dad forcing me to learn to drive a manual transmission automobile. He said if I can master that, an automatic will be easy, but don't be handicapped by only being competent with the one. Who knows what tractor my child might end up driving someday? If all he knows is the tractor has enough safety switches on it to keep it safe, that one that doesn't may get him.
Just a thought . . . Terry
p.s. yes, my oldest son is learning to drive a 5-speed auto before being privileged to drive an auto trans /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I checked out the new BX2200 at the dealers today. Now it came from another dealer [still in crate] so it is not the most recent production model...Those will start appearing in August from what I understand.

No seat switch that I could find. Now I did not get off the tractor with the engine running...I will test that tomorrow after delivery. But I did lift the seat and take a good look. Nothing there...Just the way I want it... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just to finish out this thread...I did get the bx2200 about 10 days ago and it did not have a seat safety switch.

Just put it in neutral and start it, then apparently nothing shuts it down except you turning the key off. This is what I wanted. I did not check yet, but I assume the bx will not start if the pto lever is engaged...I would hope not as I feel THAT IS an important safety feature...

I really love the bx as a grass cutter and little brother to my B2910... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I posted a ? on another thread I started and realized now that it is my seat switch that is giving me problems. I have kept the seatbelt fastened for many years now and just recently has the issue started occurring. I can giggle the seat and it will start to stall if not in neutral. Can I override the switch somehow?

My BX2200 did not come with a seat switch. A problem I had was the PTO switch button had worn down. I did an adjustment to the depress tab to compensate. Bypassing the switch could make you liable for an accident.

not worried about liability I have kept the seatbelt fastened for years and have had tipped it 2X burying 3 horses. Not proud of that, my own stupidity for being complacent. Just want to bypass it and be done.
