I just bought a brand new Kubota 3901 , new 5' Land Pride brush hog and a new Quick Hitch. The whole thing was set up at the dealer, driven onto a trailer, unloaded and I was brush hogging 30 min later. All was well until 1 hour into it, the brush hog completely detached from the hitch and was left 20' behind me. I hooked everything back up, scratched my head and continued working. Went out today , brush hogged 2 hours when 1 side detached , the pin became wedged under the arm of the quick hitch and the 3 point was now in a bind. I was able to elevate it enough (PTO shut down of course) get to level ground and try to get the brush hog reattached but the 3 point was just enough in a bind the it would not lower to the ground . One side was attached, the other side was below the quick hitch and the top arm was watching the whole thing laughing!

After phoning a friend and we tried a couple of things to try to get the hitch out of the bind so the 3 point would lower so I could reattach the brush hog (brush hog is sitting evenly on the ground) For the safety of the PTO, I disconnected it to make sure I did not get it in a bind also. In exasperation, I called my sales person telling him a needed a service call because without the ability to lift the brush hog up off the ground with jacks or pallet forks to unbind the 3 point, I was stuck. They are sending a mechanic from their shop and a new hitch tomorrow but as I am staring at the mechanism, I think I see what is wrong.

There are 2 spring loaded arms that extend over the pin on the brush hog the would appear to keep it from bouncing out but if you grab the arm, you can easily pull it up, 2 holes line up and it would appear that a cotter pin or bolt would go thru that would prevent that but possibly was not put on mine when the dealership set it up . Has anyone had this issue? Mine is the rounded yok and the Youtube videos all have demos on the square yok so it appears the spring arm is different. I will try to post pics.

Yes I also have the same problem with the quick hitch on my Kioti tractor from time to time. Basically, mowing uneven fields may force one side of the mower to pop past the quick hitch spring loaded retaining latch and disconnect the mower, and has happened to me for one side and both sides of the mower. Slower mowing speeds tend to help alot. But i just got so sick of the problem repeating again and again, that I eventually leveled parts of my field and that helped. Don't laugh, but armadillo holes were causing 75% of my mowing disconnect issues. So filling the Armadillo holes, leveling parts of the field and mowing slower has eliminated all QH mowing disconnections.

It also happens to me during box blade usage, and it was so frustrating, I just don't use a QH with my box blade. I just mount the Boxblade directly to the 3pt.

Congratulations on your new Kubota L3901 tractor.

Get a pats qh and you wont have a problem. 400 hrs on mine with every type of implement and no detatchment issues.

How snug do the implement pins fit the slot of the quick hitch,
many quick hitches need bushings installed on the implement pins.
Many of those bushings also have a shoulder to keep the implement aligned.
How is your toplink connected especially on a brush hog, the top link connection needs to have some flex or float to it,
without that when the tail wheel pushes up it will try to disconnect the top link.

It says error but it just worked for me.

Never seen a problem using this type of bushing. Even with loose fit Harbor Freight quick hitch and multiple implements. Zero problems with QH15 also.

I am mowing in low and can't go any slower. I agree our property may be too bumpy for a quick hitch.

I also have 2 implements with conventional straight adaptor bushings and bent washers on ends. Bushings must go from cat 1 to cat 3.

Service person is bringing a new hitch but also a "kit" that is an add on that is supposed to prevent this.

What kind of QH adaptor bushings did the dealer put on the implement?

If your flex joint is in front of the A-frame, it can pop off. If you move it behind, it won't.

That spring loaded latch on mine, I can grab the handle and pull it straight up in the latched position. I can see why the brush hog pops off. I don't see how mine stayed on!

The latch is spring loaded and with significant force it's possible to pull up with levers down. They don't lock solid in place. If yours moves easily up with levers down it's a hitch problem. This should have been easily detected by your dealer when setting up. It would take a unskilled person not to notice this. Someone that shouldn't be setting tractors up.

What kind of quick hitch adaptor bushings did the dealer set up on the implements?

Here's some photos of a functional QH15 purchased recently. Also top link adaptor for implements not top QH compliant.

When your bush hog came off what did the part of the driveshaft attached to the pto shaft do?

When your bush hog came off what did the part of the driveshaft attached to the pto shaft do?

So the first time, the whole thing came off and the drive shaft disconnected in the middle . Was easy enough to get put back together. The next day is when only 1 side disconnected and the QH was just enough in a bind I couldn't move it.

Update: service guy came out, jumped on the hitch and it dislodged it. I didn't think to jump up and down on it! Happily, I wasn't doing anything wrong. The hitch had come defective from the factory. One side was missing a pin that keeps the spring loaded arm from displacing up which was what I thought. I thought you could just put a bolt or cotter pin in it but he gave me a new hitch and said they would send this one back to the company. I was so happy to find out it wasn't operator error!

Glad everything worked out ok! Sounds like you have an excellent dealer.

Ok quick question. I incorrectly stated the QH is a QH15, as I am on the Kubota site looking, I actually have the QH05 and the manufacturer says 28 HP max but it was put on my 3901 which is 38 HP. Is this an issue? The recept says QH15 but it is the 05 that they installed.
