Hi all,

I'm planning on building some brush forks for my BX 2230. I'd like them to extend about 2' beyond the FEL bucket. I plan to pick up brush and the occasional short log with them. How have others gone about building and attaching them to the FEL? They will have to be detachable, and I don't want to drill too many holes, as I have an upcoming ditching project which will involve moving sand.

The local scrap yard has a bunch of 1/8" wall 1 x 1 square tubing I'd like to use; will that be heavy enough?

MY experience was from a bigger tractor with a 4500lb lift capacity but I broke a set of forks I made that were 1/4" c-channel about 8 inches wide and 4 deep. I would recomend something heavier.

Let's see. The max your BX can lift is around 400 lbs, even less 2 ft out from the bucket. I would say that 1" x 1" x 1/8" is a little light for that much weight but would probably be ok depending on how many forks you are going to have.

I have built a lot of stuff using 1" and 1.5" tubing and if it was me I would go with 1" x 1" x 1/4" as a minimum and 1.5" x 1.5" x 1/4" as ideal.

If you are looking for ideas on how to construct and attach fork like items to your bucket, I have plans for bucket forks that are free just for the asking. Over 150 satisfied people have gotten copies to date. All I need is a PM with your real email address.

I'm pretty happy with my 1" x 2" x 16ga x 40" long forks. Easy on, easy off with a socket. Weighing in at about 40#.

Current thread.

Mad Ref-

I'd love a copy of your plans! I may not build exactly as shown, but then again I never do...

HB2-

Those look great! You're showing pictures of exactly what I want the forks for. I have a pile of small oak logs (12" +/- at the base) that I need to chop up into smaller logs and move over to the "firewood yard". What is your method of attachment? Do you have pictures of it?

I use the same types of clamps everybody else uses ... 1/2" bar drilled and tapped for 1/2" hex bolt.

What is that, an old willow tree? Unpleasant smelling thing to cut, and grows back pronto. Still, best down and gone.
