Broke Down and Got One of those Fake Drawbars :-(

I have a "store-bought" version of the same thing for moving trailers and such. Converting the splitter to work with a ball hitch would allow safer travel over uneven ground.

I fail to see were a ball mount would allow safer travel over uneven ground,
ag implements used continuously on uneven ground have been primarily clevis style for as long as I can recall.
A pin going thru a clevis with a drawbar in the middle is quite secure,
in my mind much more so then a ball hitch.

Yep. Only thing that might be a bit better is Hammer Strap drawbar and pintle loop. Plus being the Pintle loop can rotate.

Quality Farm Supply, Agrisupply, Tractor Supply and others have these "drawbar locks" for around $21. Maybe what sixdogs is referring to.

I've had one for 25 years. Haven't looked at the ones available today, but mine is quite sturdy. For more strength you can always use two, one for each link arm.

These don't work, though, if you want to use a 3pt cross drawbar in a "quick hitch". Here's one solution that I posted last year to pull a manure spreader.

Indeed, that's the one I'm referring to. The extra wide tolerances to allow universal fit on anything and gives so much "slop" in operation that the metal easily tears. Maybe not if you're hauling around cupcakes, but if used in the woods or for really heavy or awkward items, I have not found the store-bought ones satisfactory. Maybe the older ones are OK but the newer import ones seem to me made of thinner metal. I just threw out my last torn one a few weeks ago. Quoth the raven "Nevermore".

Post #20 by RJCorazza looks like a winner to me.

It's worth noting here that using the drawbar between the links has potential drawbacks. If you raise the 3PT hitch and that drawbar gets caught on the real tractor drawbar, it will easily be bent into a pretzel. Here's a pic of a CAT II drawbar that came with a tractor I bought. The fellow said it just got caught by " a little bit". I guess close only counts in horseshoes.

Hydraulics are pretty powerful.

I take my stationary drawbar out except when I have the BH on.(To stabilize the pump, and keep it from spinning on the PTO.) Otherwise it seems like just something else to get hung up or caught. This is also the first tractor I've used which had one, even my 275 came without it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but you really aren't paying attention to be able to bend it like that while raising the lift.

Ha! Looking at that drawbar makes me want to put it on my HF 20-ton shop press and straighten it right out!

I'm always on the lookout for uses to make it pay for itself again, other than cracking walnuts.

Of all the different tractors that I have worked I can't recall any that the fixed drawbar extended out further back then the lift arms.

^This. On both my tractors there's at least 6" between the drawbar and the end of the lift arms. And that's with the drawbars set out as far as they can go.
