Broke Down and Got One of those Fake Drawbars :-(

Saw this happen somewhere, or maybe did it myself- fishing boat/outboard on trailer with rainwater in the bow. 3PH drawbar lifts the trailer tongue, all the rainwater runs behind the trailer axle, which lifts the 3PH until the outboard's skeg hits the pavement.

Dump trailers might be a problem too.

They are, even on a proper trailer mover. I put the jack down if I'm going to dump it (or load equipment - it has ramps) while on the tractor.

I fail to see were a ball mount would allow safer travel over uneven ground,
ag implements used continuously on uneven ground have been primarily clevis style for as long as I can recall.
A pin going thru a clevis with a drawbar in the middle is quite secure,
in my mind much more so then a ball hitch.

That the clevis style is used for a long time does not make it a good thing, it is just cheap. The clevis style worked well when horses pulled the equipment.
When using a tractor: If you use a pin that is a close fit, you are twisting the metal parts and might even break them. (think of going up-or down a slope)
If you use a smaller pin, the holes will get bigger and oval shaped. Because of the jerking and banging all the time.
I was pulling 2 wagons wit corn to the elevator last week. Weight on the scale 50,000 lb or more. That jerks with clevis and pin!

I remember seeing truck-trailer style hitches on tractors in Europe. Expensive, but much better.

Yep. Lots of Hammer Strap and Pintle loop hitches over there as well.

We used one for decades. Very handy. Sometimes a nuisance on account of sideways instability, but that can aid in hoooking up stuff too.

We first got it to rasie and lower a Liliston 3 spindle trail type bush mower that didn't have a cylinder on the back, just a crank.

Since we had no FEL, that thing lifted a lot of things too. Great for lifting logs to drag them.
Careful there. Valuable use when you accommodate the issues of a higher risk of backflip.

I built this "Hitch Adapter" several years ago. It also fits my Cat II QH. Very handy tool. It's always on one tractor or the other. 2 5/16" ball on top for moving my GN.

I have hauled a few heavy loads with clevis hitches myself; we do not use tight fitting pins for that reason.
When the holes get to ovaled out a bit of welding will cure that.
And a few light ones,
The chopper is attached to the tractor with a clevis and the unloading wagon is attached to the chopper with a clevis hitch.
The rake doubler is attached to the tractor with a clevis and both rakes have clevis hitches so 3 in that setup.

That 4020 is the prettiest tractor ever made! Never had one, but loved seeing them in the fields growing up.

The Deere 4020 is nice, I'm partial to the Ford 8000 it was our first "big" tractor we got that in 1968 prior to that the 560 was the big one on the farm.
The 8000 was very nimble with the set back front axle we tried a 4020 when we got the Ford.
The Ford just seemed better in the fields to use then the Deere.
