I've never had issues with it before, even below freezing, but the stihl silver jug bar oil seems to be gumming up really bad before it even leaves the bar cover. It seems to make the oiling inconsistant and my tip is getting hot or there doesn't seem to be enough oil on the cutting edge of the chain. I know its not to tight. Anyone had issues with this before?

Bar oil is meant to lubricate the chain sliding in the bar groove. The sticker the better IMO. If your bar does not have a nose Sprocket/wheel it will get hot if you don't give it a break once in a while.
If it does have a sprocket/wheel you should be greasing the wheel often with the special grease gun that came with the saw.

Maybe they had a bad batch? I don't use the silver stuff but have had good luck with orange general oil and blue which we're are running now. Is that the universal temp oil?

My first reaction is to pull the bar/chain and make sure the bar groove is clean, the oil ports and passages on the bar are clean/clear and the oil port area on the chainsaw are clean.

If it's still happening, try a fresh bottle of oil. Maybe the jug you're using got contaminated?

After that I would drain the oil, make sure the feed tube is clean and in good condition. Pop the bar and drum off and check the oil pump is getting oil.

We have a local Stihl/Husky dealer; I use whatever Stihl or Husky oil is on sale and never had issues, besides dirty bar groove or gummed up oil passages.

How old is the saw your having the trouble with ?
Have you followed the advice posted previously in this thread ?
Besides following that advice when the oil tank on my chainsaw is nearly empty I flush it out with gasoline about once a year, I have never experienced any oiling issues. You do need to be careful to not allow dirt to get into the tank when you remove the cover, I usually use a paint brush to brush the dirt away before removing the cover.

I think I will flush it tomorrow before I go cut again. I took it in the garage after cutting. Ran it and it cleaned up and threw plenty of oil after it through all the buildup out. It just gummed up with so much junk so fast it was very abnormal for what has happened in the past.

Yup, too much oil will cause sawdust buildup problems.

Here stihl silver comes in light weight for winter and heavy for warmer weather. Could you be using silver heavy which is too heavy when it gets cold.

The old way of cutting summer 30w bar oil is using diesel. Straight from owners manual.

or just buy winter weight bar oil 10w

Just buy the cheapest bar oil you can. Dont over pay for brand names.

I will cut it and see what happens. I am paranoid about my bar and chain getting hot. The chain got dull pretty fast. Its about a 20-24" white oak so I know it can be hard on the chain also. Its far from any road dust so I am afraid the temp increase speed up the dulling of the chain.
