You can use the extra soil inside the crawl space, to fill the low spots. Use a tiller to loosen it up and backfill with a shovel. Dave

Inspector won't go for that. The soil in there is too expansive - too much clay. If it is already there, it is okay, but if I removed it I have to use something else to replace it. Go figure.

So now my walls are grouted (filled with concrete), it's time to replace some of the soil I had taken out of the crawl space. The backhoe guy went a little overboard and dug down to the bottom of the footers instead of the top. But now I have rebar sticking 4 feet up in the air every 30 inches, so it's a little difficult to get the backhoe bucket in there. My concrete guy says no problem, just bend over the rebar. I'm not too excited about bending my rebar, as every bend makes it weaker (IMHO).
Any experience with this out there?

I'm not sure I can picture where this 4' rebar is sticking out of or what is will be used for later? They do sell rebar bending tools, so it would seem that bending it once is not going to hurt anything and it's done all the time.

The rebar I have worked with was a soft steel, if you have to bend it and then straighten it, it doesn't seem like it would harden very much. I guess you could always test one. Bend it back and forth until it breaks.

The rebar sticking up is for what? Are you adding more courses of block.

I am building a log home and the first course of logs (about 32 inches in diameter) will have to slide down over this rebar (after I make a template and drill holes in the appropriate places).

Mr. Fuller finally have the foundation in place after over 2 years of study and delay by inspectors.

Now to fill in the holes inside could a 2X12" plank with a wheel barrow to bring material to inside edge and dump ?
Used to work before all the modern equip. was used. And isn't it about time to shut down for the winter again.
How are you keeping the logs from rotting while waiting for this foundation to be made.

Yes sir Ken, there is always the wheelbarrow, but at age 64, I try for all mechanical means first.

Mr. Fuller I'm soon to be 78 and still use the all metal wheel barrow my Father used before the WPA became means of employment before the WW2
Pushed the thing many miles loaded with what ever needed hauled.
Will be glad to loan it to you .

If all the weather men say going to be a bad winter could be enjoyable to able to work out side.
Although getting better to predict the snow after it is snowing.

Dump #57 over the wall into the basement using a FEL/bucket & spread using Manuel Labor(I know that guy). Then pour your slab.

No present plan for pouring a slab. It's suppose to be a crawl space. I just have to get non-expandable soil into the area around the footers and compact it. The soils engineer has to test the compaction and sign off on it before I'm okay. Will I slab it someday? Maybe, but I don't want to make plan changes now unless I absolutely have to.
