Posthole Digger Auger tips

I have a Rhino L200 9” PHD and it has stopped digging. I want to swap out the dull tip. I see 2 options: spiral point and fishtail. My soil turns to red clay at about 24 inches, rocks not a problem. Which point gives better results? Guadalupe County, Texas

You mean 'soil' not soul. Your soul may or may not be corrupt and it's not any of my business to comment on it.

No rocks equal a replaceable cutting edge versus a screw tip.

Having used both tips, I prefer the fish tail type for our clay soil.
Sharpening or reversing the auger bits also makes a big difference.

I started out with a Leinbach Line auger and it was horrible. I switched to a Speeco auger with replacable cutting teeth and tip that was a lot better. But then I couldn't find any replacement teeth for it and I was desperate to keep drilling holes for my fence, so I went to Tractor Supply and bought their Country Line auger. It looked very similar to the Speeco, but it dug ten times better. This was the first auger that I had that would dig too fast and bury itself. It's still not 100% able to drill in the hardest soil, in the heat of summer, but in Spring through Fall, it can drill through anything I have.

I've replaced the teeth five or six times and the tip once. I need to replace the tip again and I'll buy one from Amazon. That's also where I get the teeth from. Tractor Supply rarely has parts in supply, so it's not really worth the time to go there.

Drilling too fast and getting stuck is a direct result of you not plunging down a bit and then pulling it up out of the hole and repeating. You always need to 'pump' a PHD up and down and pulling it allows the flights to expel the dirt and always dig at the lowest possible PTO speed as well.
