So.....I loaded my tractor on the trailer today for the first time. F250 Superduty 20' Bumper pull
Channel Iron frame and 2 7K axles. Butt down, nose up. Even setting the tractor back a bit on the trailer
still a little too much drop IMO.

Opinions on the best way to counter this. Air bags .. or a helper - leveling spring.
What should I expect to pay and which works the best.

Thanks
Jon

Lots of folks can help on this. Can you put up a photo of the truck with trailer and tractor on it?
That would help to zero in on solutions.

Yes, a picture would really help. Just as well what model tractor were you towing ?

You need some actual weight figures really. Gross weight of the trailer and tongue weight. With a bumper pull you should have about 10-15% tongue weight. Most 3/4 tons should be able to handle that without help, although airbags would be helpful.

I put air bags on my 2500 for towing my 5th wheel but now I wish I had put Timbrens on instead. They would have been a lot less work and about $500.00 cheaper than the bags with the compressor.

I agree pictures and weights would help but from my experience using a similar F250 and 20' trailer you should not need any extra bags or springs on the truck. I find the rear axle of the tractor should be just ahead of the trailers rear axle, depends on what is on the tractor (fel, heavy rear implement etc.). Having the proper hitch is more beneficial and important imo.

Does tractor have a loader on it? Good rule of thumb is to place tractor on trailer pointing forward and have the rear axle of tractor in between the trailer tandems. If there is still too much weight on truck then move tractor back on trailer until the rear axle of tractor is over the rear axle of trailer. If there is still too much weight on the truck you will to address the issue, but with a F250 you should have plenty suspension to handle this load.

Weight distributing hitch, the type with "lift or weight bars" with the bars rated for your tongue weight. If that is not enough helper leaves or airbags.

Back it on the trailer.

Don't know the year of your F250 but if the rear is sagging that much maybe you need to replace the springs. The 250 should barely drop at all if the springs are good. I have a 22' 14K trailer I tow with a half ton and the rear of my truck only drops an inch or two with the tractor loaded.
